Speaking of Lift Arms

I was just reading the post about replacement lift arms, and was just wondering, has anyone tried these replacement end balls that you weld on? Of course I realize the durability would depend on the quality of the weld, but it seems like it would be an economical approach to solving the problem. Just wondering.

We have some welded on with the dreaded 6013 rod; have been in use 25 or so years. Expecting a problem with them any day now. Thanks for the email shadetree, will send another soon.

Dad did that on the 960 a few decades ago. Poor thing can hardly lift a 5x6 round bale, but was the tractor I had for that winter to do the job.

Anyhow, I suppose dads weld will break some day. This was on the tractor side.

Just had the outside one pull the ball out this fall. Will need to get it off and get a new end welled on. Dad was poor with welding, I'm worse, so might have a real welder do a good pretty job on it.

I've used em for 30 years for many uses. The first set on the Super M lasted over 25 years, they just plain wore out.I build 3 points as a 'sideline' to make extra money. Each 3 point will use 6 'speeballs'.

Did my 8N a few years ago on one side on the back of the arm. Am very pleased with it. Yes, also used 6013 rod like I have done for years. Just vee it out good and chip the slag after each pass.

Wish we would have known about them years ago or would have gone that way instead of changing.

Replaced them on a IH4166 set around 170 hp and have pulled a five shank inline ripper 14 inches with no problems. Had a retired welder install them. Not a job for some "hack" welder like me.

You better cut them off and put them back on with 7018 before somebody gets hurt. LOL
