Don't remember this being asked before, but how many are SAL members?

Squadron 506 in Emden, Illinois

PS: Prolly 90% of our group have tractors and most farm.

Honestly , this is the first time I heard of SONS of the American Legion. Dad was a Legion member till the day he died. I will check with the local post to see if they have a detachment.

..well,I'm a member of the Canadian Legion. Our legion have categories. You can be an Associate member of an Affiliated member.Associate means you father or mother or close family members served their country. I had an uncle on my Dad's side and an Aunt on my Mother's side who served in WW2.
An Affilliated member is fraternal,a member based on desire to serve the Legion and help veterans.
All Legion members are expected to help with the poppy campaign, this is our Remembrance Day fund raiser, distributing poppies to schools, businesses and homes..our little Legion collected over 7 thousand dollars in a town of 750 population. All our poppy fund goes to help veterans in nursing homes, care in their own homes, repairs to their homes, comfort items etc...sounds like sons of the American legion to me..very similair

Guess I vaguely recall hearing of the SAL, but I haven't seen any local activity.

Even though I live in Nebraska, I'm a member-at-large from a chapter of the Legion in Washington DC.

(quoted from post at 14:29:21 01/21/13) Never knew such an organization existed. I guess I qualify, but I don't know why I should join.

I joined out of respect for my grandfather and uncle who served... as well as all the other great friends and people who have served and are still serving our country. The SAL does a lot of good things for our local area as well as country wide from funds raised by having different raffles and community events. If I'm not mistaken I think our Sons unit puts on our weekly turkey shoots and that money raised from them goes into the kitty for anything that comes up that they can help out with. Think they do our annual car cruise as well.

There's the old saying... There's strength in numbers. Same goes for support for our veterans. With stronger membership comes greater support.

Give it some thought to joining. It doesn't cost much (thinking like 12 bucks?) and every little bit counts. Social memebership... Sons of American Legion membership... Ladies Auxilary membership... or Regular membership if you served. It's the best club I can think of to be a part of.

Have a great day...
Bob from SAL Post 512 Unionville PA

My son has belonged forover thirty years so it has been around that long. I have been a Legion member for fifty years. You don't hear much about the Sons of Legions like you used to.

Our small town Legion Post established a SAL Squad about 15 years ago to help with the aging Veterans that had put on an annual Homecoming since about 1948!

We now pretty much take care of that and have added an annual fish fry and pancake breakfast to Honor them and donate back to the community in the way of scholarships and other small town benefits. (NOT food Stamps)

We have color guards at a deceased Veteran's burial, march in parades, attend Memorial Day services, take care of their/our meeting place and enjoy their commaradary.

PS: Our guys in SAL are a fun bunch coming from a small town of mostly farmers!

My dad was an over 50 year legion member in our small town and he always said they needed one as the members were getting old and they should have sons carry on the traditions. They merged with the next town over but time is starting to make them fewer.
