Antique or not........prices!

Due to changes in my operation I could better use more power, and fewer antiques, but at what price?
To put my newer, bigger, 6' Woods belly mower under my AC C, I bought the one main mounting bracket and drive pulley. (I'll be selling the B with an old 5' deck under it) The bracket, pulley, and freight spoiled $500. No lift brackets, I made them. No hardware package, just the two pieces.
It's just that thinking about tires, batteries, storage space, etc. I don't like keeping something around I won't be using.
Was just helping a neighbor with a new-used purchase. JD 7230 MFWD. We found a ball joint in the steering bad. The rubber boot at the very outer ball joint is $40 !!!!!!!! Just the boot!
I guess you just do it and don't look at the bill!

I agree, its all getting way too stupid. I guess they figured out if the people would take this screwing on fuel that they will take most anything, and they are not far from wrong.

We do have some inflation!

The bigger issue is the Fed creating dollars. They don't even print them. With just a stroke of the keyboard they add trillions to their/our account.

The real problem is the dollar is devaluing.

I think at a rate of 6-8% per year. Add that to 3-4% inflation rate. + increased costs of business to comply with new government regulations such as external_linkcare etc.

Business must add those costs to their product or service and pass it on to the consumer!

It makes little thing seem stupid expensive. I have a Great Dane 53' dry van that I need 4 new pins for the sliding tandem assembly. $115.00 each. These pins are not anything special as far as manufacturing. I'm sure they're hardened steel but no way should be that much.

Have you been living under a rock for the last 50 years or so? I've seen milk go from $3 per hundred weight to $23 while the cows now put out 30k instead of 10k. Corn from $2 to $8. Soybeans from $4 to $15. I'll take that new truck I just paid $49k cash for over that old '52 Ford F6 anyday! I can now work 600 acres in the time it used to take to do 60. If you can't get it thru your thick head that "Times Are A Changin" then maybe it's time to get off. Reminds me of a neighbor who thinks only he should be the recipient of the big $$$. Everybody else should be happy with 1952 price controls.

Rubber toilet flapper valve.

Dome shape on the bottom even with a hole for the ball joint stud.

Sharp knife, Waala, instant dust boot.

Made in U.S.A. and $3.59, install about 3 if you have room.

Still comes in cheaper than Deere.

What is the dollar devaluing against? We have lost value against CA over the past few years, but we are holding our own against the Euro. We must be doing OK against the Yuan, cheap chinese junk is still cheap. The advantage of the dollar loosing value is some manufacturing will come back.

Explain to me why it's taking so many more dollars to buy anything if it's not devaluing?

How can it not devalue when there are so many more of them now than even a few years ago.

Edumakate me!

I was fixing up a JD 1010. The plastic fuse holder in the dash is $130 bucks from JD, or about 2 bucks at a flea market.

Because the cost of fuel to fire electrical plant and equipment raises the cost of electricty and the cost of moving thing things. The cost of external_link Care hitting companies plus hight corperate taxes. That means that delivered to the store it cost the various companies more money. That price is reflected at the cash regester and don't forget it's cost the store more for employees and that reflects too. It's called inflation. If a company needs 15% profits to stay in business and thier cost goes up 10% because of fuel/electricty, bennies and taxes means that they are going to pass it on tho the consumer! And you thought someone else was going to pay for all the bail outs, extended unemployment, health care and the deficit? Give me a break.

The problem is corn will not stay at $8.00 or beans at$15.00. When the prices paid to us go down that expensive part will not.If crop prices are half what they are now will your truck cost half as much?Alot of things are in line price wise but many equipment parts are way overpriced. It pays to shop around and consider other sources than the dealer.

Replaced boot on tie rod om my MF with a generic - on rack, from my local NAPA. A little surgery with a box cutter knife, and in business. Like the toilet bowl stopper idea as well!
