ice fishin?

My grandfather used to do ice fishing.

They lived at Big Round Lake in WI. We were there around Christmas many years ago.

He had a very nice, small hut with a heater. I never stayed very long. My feet always got cold.

yeah, when there's ICE! Last year no ice at all. First time in my life I ever remember not being able to get out on the ice. This year is a little better, but not by much.

Still haven't been out, but will try this weekend.

Normally we're hoping to get out right after thanksgiving.

I'll stick in my losing bass picture. During a derby - $1000 prize for biggest bass. All fish had to be in by 4:00pm. I didn't get a single flag all day - absolutely nothing - cold, snowy, windy, miserable day.

Nobody had much luck - biggest bass in the running were all tiny.

Air horn blows at 4:00 - and it's like the horn set off the flag. Literally less than a second after. (you can see others packed up moving out in the background)

It was a good enough fish for that pond, but had I caught it two minutes earlier, I'd have been $1000 richer.

Yup! I have been out the last three weekends. Was up by Ottertail Mn last weekend and picked up a few waleyes and some slab crapies. 18 inches of ice. Cold and windy

dlbuck - those cabins to rent still on the north shore of German? Can't remember the name. We had a cabin on Werner's Cove on Jefferson 40 years ago. Was up there a couple years ago and Jefferson is little more than a slough. I remember when it was all open water and you could go between the two lakes.

Spent many hours on those lakes, and Titonka and Sakata in Waterville too. Me and another kid swam clear across Titonka at Best Point and back one summer afternoon. I wouldn't get past the end of the dock today.

On Otter Tail or one of the others?

We are about 10 minutes from the ramp on the west side off of HWY 78.

Wish I would have seen your post earlier. It wasn't on otertail a lake nearby. I could have put you in the right direction. A couple of inlaws and I went out sat morning and picked up some nice walleyes then a cold front came through and they slowed down a little. we fished three morning bites and two at night. Got some crappies around 7/9 to a pound. Dale
