John, couple of days ago you were moaning about too much rain down there in the south end of the state. I'll admit that I was pretty much indifferent to your plight until I read in my paper today that the excessive rain down south is having a detrimental effect on the spring crawfish crop. Now that's getting personal and serious!

Seems that the excess water is washing the bugs out of their ponds, either leaving them stranded or in places where they can't be harvested. Also, the water is messing with their nutrients, affecting their size. Sounds bad. Really bad.

Yes I heard that also. With some places getting around 2 ft of rain in the past 6 weeks the pond levees are being over topped. This is allowing the crawfish a way to get out and fish in the surrounding swamp a way to get in. What crawfish do not escape are being eaten by the fish.

It could be worse. We could be getting the freezing rain I 20 is getting.

I think we have had 2 days this year with no rain and more rain is forcast for tomarrow.

We were looking at shipping (Barge) restrictions on the Mississippi up around Cario Ill. I am wonder if the river is catching up in that part of the country. Live on the Cumberland here in middle Tenn. and it has really come on up in the last week. Everything that falls here eventually gets on down to you guys. Sorry about the crawfish but as long as it does not affect the shrimp guess I will be O.K. (LOL)

I too am concerned. I spend a week a month in Gonzales for work. I have been patiently looking forward to a visit to Sammy"s for a pitcher of beer and and a pile of craw daddy"s
