1020 JD jumping out of reverse

Bad shift collar(#8 and reverse gear #9). They are just a simple collar shift type of transmission. If you try to change direction while rolling the shift collar grinds. This grinding knocks the edges off the collar. Soon they are tapered enough that they will not stay in gear.

Some times if the shifter moves real easy it could be the detent ball or spring but that is real rare. The collar being worn is common.
