Snowmobile help

I do use the sled around the farm. Here's my problem. 2000 500xc polaris, starts up and runs great. My problem is the lights. They are bright one minute, then dim, then off, then bright, then nothing, just a random cycle. My voltage regulator glows and follows the cycle of the headlight. Is the VR the problem?

sounds like it has gone bad, you might try removing it and cleaning the back of it a the body where it attaches as it must have a good ground,I have never seen one glow, they are not expensive I would change it before it takes out your light coil cnt

Just fixed a buddies sled doing the same thing. The wires were rubbed through at the base of the handle bars where they turn and was grounding the wire when he turned.

wouldn't hurt to check the rest of the harness if its rubbed through somewhere the vibration could be enough to change it

Mark-I have a 2000 xc sp 700 and a couple of seasons ago I had an electrical issue. My headlight(s) and hand warmers would work intermittently. All it turned out to be for me was the left bank, where the dimmer switch and hand warmer controls are, the set screw lost its ground. Just from vibration etc, it wore on the handlebars enough that it was not making contact all the time. I just moved it a little and retightened the screw down. May not be your problem but something simple to check. SHON
