Mike,

Below you called out okra pickles. I like both, do you buy them or make them? Are they okra and pickles together, or pickled okra?

I always have way too much okra at harvest, so I usually fry it in bacon grease for dinner every night or give it away so it dont spoil.

Thanks,
Rick

I've always loved pickled Okra. I usually buy a jar of 'Talk O' Texas' at my local grocer.

Maybe this year I will plant some and can it myself.

BigDW,

Don't know where you are from... but I tried growing okra in MN a few years ago. It did not produce well and the okra seemed extra tough.

I just buy it fresh or frozen at the market, and save myself the headache.

Pickled okra. Like someone below, I buy Talk 'O Town, the hot variety. Its not hot, but has more flavor than mild. I live in a climate that could not be worse for okra, so I can't grow it, and its not available fresh here. If so, I'd pickle my own.

I even looked into buying Talk 'O Town by the case- much cheaper, but you give the savings to your friendly UPS guy, so it comes out the same.

Thanks, I will look for it at the store. I have good luck with growing okra here in Michigan. Some years have been so-so, but most are pretty darn good, more than I can eat.
