How does one mix Acetone and ATF

Much has been said on this forum about the powers of a 50/50 mixture of Acetone and ATF. I decided to make a batch today however, it does not seem to mix. If you shake it up it looks like water and oil; then settles out to two separate phases. I don't see how this can work....is there a special kind of ATF to use. I have tried, Dexron-III, Castrol type F and Motorcraft Type F. See picture of the three samples below:

I have used the 50/50 mix for several years with
good results. I put it in a pressure can, and every
time I use it I shake it up real good.
I didn't know that it seperated.

I never have mixed up ATF and acetone but I have mixed turpentine and ATF and that works very well. That said 99% of the time I just use ATF in an on stuff. I keep an old pumper oil can full of ATF. By the way that can is an old JD company pumper oil can I got a few years back for Christmas

It's all I ever use anymore, like others have said
just shake before using. If you every change a atv
tire, this stuff will make the job easy. Not sure
why it works so well getting the tires on and off
the rims but it does.

Well Ken, now ya went and spoiled it for everyone by mixing it in those glass beakers. Nobody on a tractor forum is supposed to know about beakers. Hopefully this thread gets poofed real quick before too many people's weeks get ruined.

Even if you shake it the acetone separates right out as soon as you pour it into the cylinder.

Then the acetone evaporates and floats up out an open valve.

Putting acetone in the "magic potion" is just something someone tried at random. The engine came loose so they "logically" concluded that the acetone had something to do with it.

It has to "emulsify" to mix. I have used a little
dish soap to get ATF to mix with water. Just don't
"shake" it too much.....

Never tried it with Acetone.
