O/T Computer anti-virus..........

Don't ever use "Webroot" anti-virus software.

I installed it on both my computer and my wife's. Internet usage went berzerk and through the roof.

We're on a 5 Gig monthly plan, and my wife and I together will typically use about 3 Gigs per month. Within a couple of days after I installed it, we went through about 4 Gigs. At one point, we used 2 Gigs in five hours. I uninstalled the Webroot and usage dropped back to normal. I'll have about $30 in overage charges, but at least I got it stopped.

Plus, it was like a virus in itself. I had a he!!uva time getting it to uninstall.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

I use AVG Free. It's free software that is updated daily with new signatures and from time to time with updated software. No charge has worked fine for me for many years.

Sorry to say it, but webroot is a widely known virus or whatever you want to call it. I was warned about it a couple of years ago by my son. Always ask your kids about this stuff. lol By the way, I use Avast, recomended by my son, and it works great and is free.

If you're looking for FREE anti-virus (I always pay for Norton or McAfee), then I recommend AVG or Trend Micro and also run MalwareBytes (which will stop most malware that is not a full-blown virus). Spybot S&D is also a good anti-malware product (also free).

MSE, malwarebytes, make a good combination. Superantispyware, and CCleaner are on my machine also. All are free and good stuff to have.

I installed that on my new computer in late 2011 and it's been trouble free.

We pay for Kaspersky, our local computer nerd checked it awhile back for any viruses and it was clean. It works on three computers in your house and has daily updates.

I have "Malwarebytes", and "Microsoft Security
Essentials". I can run the Malwarebytes, and it
say "No problems detected". I then run the
Microsoft Security Essentials and it picks up
things! The Malwarebytes is worthless..(at least
the free version is).

No webroot is a legitimate anti spyware anti virus program that was pretty good

The problem is that it's gotten bloated and a has become resource hog

I liked the older version from a few years back better than the current version

Really good support and customer service but you have to pay for it

Norton and mcaffery once the best out there are a waste of time

Malware bytes is a great program with a small foot print

I use both on my computer and they seem to catch almost everything

The biggest problem is the yet to be discovered

Malwarebytes is not an antivirus program. It does an excellent job of cleaning bad things off the computer. The paid version will block the the fake viruses and other things from getting on the computer. The paid version of Malwarebytes is cheap and is lifetime. I use Norton Antivirus and the paid version of Malwarebytes. The paid version of Malwarebytes and the free Microsoft Security Suite would be a good combination.
