From the post below...When I turned 16 my father went and bought 'me' a '62 Pontiac Catalina. He pd $200..4 door.389 2bbl;auto;power windows...."grandma car",HATED it.I drove it till Ibought my CL175 Honda motorcycle. The car stayed till my brother got his liscence,he drove it till he bought a Scout....Then my sister drove it-for years(she loved that car!Named it 'Sally').She wrecked it 4 times.insurance company 'totaled'it all three!First time:She got t-boned.Dad pd the ins $50.We visitedthe local salvage yard.$60 and a long day,we had that car back together. The 'parts donor was the EXACT color(red).Next time,a high schoolkid backed into her.Buy back for $50.Back to the the salvage yard.$75.This time the parts were blue.Next time another HS kid backed into her again. The kid gave Dad $300 to not call the cops.Back to the salvage yard. This time the parts(grill,bumper....)were from a 'Tempest'(we had 'exausted' all the Catalina parts by then). The next(and last) time, she sideswiped a bridge during a snowstorm, wipeing out the entire right side. The ins co. just pd Dad some cash, told him to "keep the car".She drove it till she was married. Her new husband provided her a 'nice' car.Mom drove it some afterward some and inbetween' kids.Dad finally sold that car to a college girl for $300.She was seen years later still driveing that car!

used to hitchhike a lot around the country, sometimes thousands of miles. Always glad to see a Catalina pull up to the stop sign. They had a huge gas tank & long distance traveling salesmen preferred them for their speed & ground covering abilities. When I saw a single guy in one I knew I was gonna cover ground that day!

2x4,

Those were the days, huh? Christmas 1963, I was in the Navy stationed in Winter Harbor, Maine. I put on my dress blues and hitch hiked home to Cleveland, Ohio. I would barely get out of one car before another one would stop to pick me up.

Another time I hitch hiked from Cleveland to Norfolk, Virginia.

Today, I would be very hard pressed to pick up a hitch hiker. Too bad that our society has changed so much.

I had a 62 Catalina,2 dr sport coup 389. Not quite all the asserys. Had 8 bolt wheels which a lot of people dont believe.drove several years sold in 82?

those were the days & it is too bad. Live near Bucksnort TN just off I-40 at Exit 148. You must be fairly close.

Was 1962 the year Pontiac came out with the 'Super Duty' 421? My buddy had one, his parents bought it for him, brand new. We used to take it over to Alton Dragway (long gone now) in Illinois. That car was a blast. I think it was 62.

Eight bolt wheels= Mega Bucks now!
