Wanting to know if anyone knows anything about an old Farmhand grinder mixer. Are there any parts available, who actually made the machine, etc. I had a New Holland several years ago but have never had any dealings with Farmhand equiptment. I've searched for information but haven't had much luck. I found a few whole units for sale but nothing to tell me when different models were made, parts list, or anything like that.

Farmhand was a free-standing company that built their own products in Hopkins, MN. Bought by AGCO years ago. AGCO dealer locater at www,agcocorp.com.

Their factory was turned into a multi-storage warehouse, burned a couple years ago didn't it? Glencoe, Green Isle, one of those towns???? Haven't driven that way in a while, forget now.

I believe most of those grinder-mixers, no matter the brand, are built using "off the shelf" components. I'm sure a few of the parts are made "in house" but most of the bearings, etc. will be readily available from most any farm machinery dealer, bearing supply house, etc., or at least they can get them for you.

Green Isle maybe. There was some kind of farm equip manufacturing there. I went to the closeout sale at Glencoe in the early 90s?- where they made the chisel plow, tine harrow attachments, etc. That bldg got turned into something else, dunno what. That bldg was still there in early 2000s when I went to Haukos Bros for 7000 fert tanks.

Farmhand got rolled into AGCO. Some parts are still available but most are not. I have had to work on a few in the last few years. They have not been fun to get OEM parts for. Most of the time you can get off the shelf maintenance parts like bearings and such but casting and housing can be a pain.

New Holland still is pretty good on parts but they are getting higher than heck on them.

Artsway and H & S are about the only ones still making a grinder mixer. H&S actually just started making them a few years ago I think they may have boughten Gehl's patents because they really look like a Gehl.

We run two Farmhand grinder-mixers. Both are over 45 years old and going strong. We used to grind 2-3 loads of shell corn/oats per week when we still farrowed and fed hogs, plus at least a load of ground earn corn for the cattle. We still grind the ear corn. Those go through a coarse screen. We still grind an occasional load of shell corn/oats through the fine screen for chicken feed. We run it with an Allis-Chalmers D-17, which handles it fine except the oats through the fine screen. Oats must be tough-we have to go slow, but don't do enough to make it a bother. If you are asking about standard maintenance/repairs like bearings, gears, roller chains, hammers, etc., then you won"t have any real trouble. Screens can be tougher, but if you have intact screens with the grinder, you won"t have to worry about it for a while. Sheet metal, framework, and augers are all repairable, but the mixer auger in the center of the tub is a real barrel of monkeys. Castings-JDSeller is right, good luck, but ours haven"t been an issue. Good, but aging, machines that are no longer made. Durable and fixable.
