Would like to know what is the better waters, that don't need electric power to keep them from freezing.
Was looking at a couple of sites, and concluded if if gets colder than about 20 degrees out, it would need heat to keep from freezing.
We get some -20 weather here during the winter some years more than others. Central MI between Lansing and Flint.
We have had a couple of Ritchie waters for over 30years.

| We have 8 horse's drinking off one auto-water, Bar-Bar-A, best money ever spent on a horse, highly recommend. Never frozen yet.

| Thanks guys one of those were 2 that came up on my search. I wondered if there might be an issue about freezing, if it is just the ball that is not bad for 20 below.

| You generally need a certain amount of animals using them to keep them from freezing.

| I'm northwest of Lansing. Not positive without going out to look,but I'm thinking mine are Mirafount. They're the ones with the big ball in the top anyway. The most important thing with those is to use the insulated heat tube when you put them in. They're two inch thick insulation,16 inch I.D.,20 inch O.D.,down below the frost line. In real cold weather,I have to kick the balls loose first thing in the morning,but I've never had a valve freeze.
