You know the jar at the checkout counter type of thing. There has been a whole bunch of benefits for different people and things. It seems like people are not helping directly but in a more impersonal way. Susie also said that Steve and Carol where even upset about having to have the livestock chores done by others. She thinks that they where greatly effected by having to buy the farm the way it happened. They do not want help. They want to be independent. We will just have to see how things work out. Explain to her that there's nothing wrong, dependent, or demeaning about accepting the well wishes and help from neighbors. Its not charity or a handout. After a while, we and some of his church members convinced him that people want to help just as he had helped others before. It makes people feel good to help someone in real need. He had insurance, but much of the bills was not covered, like much of the $17000 ride to the hospital in a helicopter. People like to feel needed when someone really needs help. His coworkers with the SC Forestry Commission and friends and family all jumped in to help with his small farming operation. Heck, even his old man, me, jumped in and sprayed 2 acres of pumpkins he had with a backpack sprayer. Richard in NW SC [Reply]  [No Email]

It's just not right to pass this by- there are so many worthy groups needing help. I understand their reluctance, but please emphasize that some of us need worthy, worthwhile causes to help.
