the shame that is going on at the scrap yards i took in some scrap today and traded it for some wheel weights got them for 25 $ each for rear ih weights i am going back after new years to save the rest there were case jd and ih i asked the guy if they had any split weights and he took me to the pile after a walk around the stuff that is going into thease places is the shame i already had established a relationship with an other yard in my area they have my phone number and i have saved a plow already i think this is important we all know how long it can take to find a part sometimes i suggest we all try i know we cant save everything but we have to try just a thought from some who is intrested it preserving part of our past thanks and happy new year

When all us old guys are dead and gone there isn't going to be anybody around who cares about the old stuff. Maybe one or two but society today is about disposeable items. I collected old metal toys from the fifties. Fifty years from now the toys made today will be just a memory and society will just go on, not caring about the past. All the old iron will just end up in a scrap metal pile in china, waiting to be made into junk for sale to the U.S. if it is still around then.

Another shame is all these beautiful old guns they've been collecting in these "buy-back" programs. Supposedly all will be melted. For instance, saw on the news a great-looking old Browning humpback, either a 16 or a 20, being laid on the pile.

Where is it located ? I'm looking for a set of FORD-Dearborn plows & parts . Let me know if you find anything -- cheap . God bless, Ken

It's a shame that so many of the steam locomotives and traction engines were scrapped for war materials.

They should have saved our WWII aircraft carrier USS Enterprise too, and a lot more of our fighters and bombers from that era.

Ya never know. And if the officers weren't honest in this case?

On your first point, I guess I disagree. I think it was more important to have dead Nazis than it was to have worn-out steam locomotives.

there was also a td 6 dozer with a blade with straght tin i think that has some value gonna call a couple people to see if they are intrested all i am saying is we have to be on the lookout for this kind of stuff and do what we can or some things will be gone for good

I have a booth next door selling memberships to my mountain ski resort in Louisiana to those believeing crooks are turning in thier guns at those places.

My wallet's empty and my buildings are full. I'm doing my best to help out.

We have to balance preserving the past with burying ourselves up to our eyeballs in our own junk.

Jerry, call me cynical but you can bet your A$$ a lot of the cops who are going to see these guns "disposed of" are collectors and they will somehow manage to glean the best for themselves.
Now, I'm not saying that is a bad thing; I just wish I was in the position to do it myself. LOL

As it stands right now..Very Doubtful.........

Education emerging from "NO Child Left Behind" has about guaranteed, no Einsteins will among them..

It IS the "ME" generation..."ME, NOW"....

Absolutely NO Education what so ever...

They cannot even write their own Name.....

Where you from?!! My grandkids can do things in math that just makes me shake my head. They can read in kindergarten and not just "see spot-see spot run". That's how I learned to read in the first grade back in the day. They can do some pretty creative writing also. I'm not so worried as you are about the next generation as I see good in my grandkids.

There may not be much emand for the stuff we remember as kids, but there will be for the stuff they remember from childhood. Buy plastic toys if you want to see them increase in value. Look at the interest in tractors from the 60's & 70's today. Newer collectors remember them from their youth. I grew up in the 50's, farming with stuff from the 30's & 40's so that's my interest. Unfortunately as our farm numbers declined fewer and fewer kids grew up on farms, so there may be fewer collectors of farm related stuff in the future.

To be fair and let the people who bring these guns in to be "disposed" of. The officers should have an anvil and sledge hammer there and give each gun a few good whacks. I often thought of setting up next to one of these gun collection places and offer to fix the gun so it could never be used. I bet you'd get run off in a hurry by the police. I too think if a nice piece comes in it never makes it to the place to be destroyed. The intent of the program is to get the guns out of circulation and not into some officers gun case.
If people don't want a gun then they should take it to a gun store or auction and sell it.
Just my opinion,
Dick

I work at a salvage yard. Not very many tractors comming in but alot of newer stuff. DJ 7000 series planters,6600and 7700 combines etc. Just last week a excavating company brought in a case 1150 dozer, cat hoe,Gallion grader, older roller. All of them drove off the trailers on their own power.I asked the one driver why they didnt try to sell this stuff first and he said the owner was tired of dealing with public. Said unload here -get paid-and go home! Made me sick to see this stuff torched!!!!

You are in a whole different School system then..!!

Here, kids are NOT taught to write "Long Hand (Cursive?) at all.
As long as they can PRINT (and not legibly), is all our VERY advertised Olentangy School System requires..(Ohio 43065)..
They are very proud..so proud that they are putting down Astro-Turf on 3 of their High School Football fields...!!
Make any sense to YOU..???
Not me, either.

I am not trying to bash you sir but you need to be rallying citizens to attend schoolboard meetings. Too many people throw up their hands saying "it's to far gone,I give up". While some blame the schools, others blame parents for being involved as reason for a substandard generation.
I am amazed what my grand kids( 9 to 23 year olds) are accomplishing.

If it was laid back in the pile, it was either a prop for the clip, or it was already going to be commandeered by someone.

If possible , take pics from different angles so I can see the conditions & whats missing or broken . Thank you & God bless , Ken PS . Happy New Year

Very glad you are not surrounded by this epidemic of Liberals..and I do hope you are correct about your children's education...

You have to be kidding! They aren't learning cursive? Next thing you know they will stop teaching Latin too! Think of all the things those poor kids won't be able to read without knowing cursive at the 3rd grade level; Historical documents and; Oh wait. Nevermind.
