3 weeks today

Well, it's been 3 weeks today since I've lit a cigarette. I've sure wanted one a few times, but to this point, haven't given in to the craving. I sure don't want to end up back in the hospital. I am breathing alot better without the coughing up of all the stuff in the mornings. Maybe I'll make it after all, just taking it one day at a time so I can get back to working on the tractors when I get laid off and maybe retired again this spring. Keith

stay with it Keith i stoped March 5 th of 2009 after smoking for 53 years you can do it it gets easer each day good luck Kent

You're over the worst of it. Now you just have to make the hand stop reaching in the pocket. What ever you do don't light up another one thinking you can quit whenever you want. Whenever I get the craving I look at the people standing outside when it is -10 and think of how foolish it looks. Besides look at how much money you are saving both in cigs and medical expense.

Good for you, Keith. How old are you? I quit when a pack got to 45 cents. I said that's too much to pay for it. I was smoking 2 packs of Super Long Kools at the time. Get plenty of vitamin C because your body burns it up to burn off the nicotine in your body.

3 years Dec 15, 16 days ago. If I can do it, so can you. Wait until you're clean a bit and then sit in someone's car who smokes.......I never knew how bad it smelled. Just stick with it. You'll do it.

Congratulations! You're past the hard part.

When I quit, I quit cold turkey. The first day, I had a splitting headache and felt light headed, the second day I still had a headache, but the light headedness was gone, and by the third day I was wondering what would possess anyone to start smoking in the first place.

Hang in there, you'll make it.

In 82 I quit by doing pushups everytime I wanted a smoke.
That lasted two years.
I gave it another shot 2 1/2 years ago. So far so good
congratulations
K

I agree with Ronald...don"t start again thinking it was easy to quit. Hang in there. Pretty soon you"ll stop counting. I can"t recall how long it"s been since I quit chewing, 9 years I think. Quit twice for a year, started again twice thinking how easy it was to quit. In less than a day each time I was back to a can a day, just like you"ll be back to a pack or more each day if you have even one. You"re doing one of the best things you"ve ever done for yourself-good job.

Good going Keith. I dumped the smoke Xmas day 2010. Gained 25 lbs but what the hay?. Get a jar and put $5 in it every day. When you see $1000 in there in 7 months you will realize what it is all about.

Your over the hill.
I did it one hour at a time.
Then one day at a time.
Then one week at a time.
Then one month at a time.
Then one year at a time.
It took me probably 2-3 years to get over it. I always said if I was going to die I would start up again. I quit saying that after about 7-8 years though.
Probably one of the smartest things I've ever done. I got mad when they went up to 50 cents a pack. That was 1973.

I quit smoking in 1991 in the middle of a divorce. I did it the same way as you, by the hour, day, week, month, and year. Now when I smell someone smoking it gives me a headache. You got it whipped now. Good luck and Happy New Year.

I gave them up a little over 3 years ago. When the price went up to $4 a pack I said enough was enough and have not looked back. But believe it or not I think not smoking has hurt my deer hunting. Seems like back when I smoked I shot more deer then I have each year I have not smoked LOL

Like Ronald said, don't make the mistake of thinking you can have "just one". That one will end your three weeks of progress and you'll be on your way to the store to buy a carton.

It's been over 40 years ago that I quit smoking 2-1/2 packs a day. I'd have been dead long ago if I hadn't quit.

Anyone want to do the math on how much money I've saved by not smoking in that time?

If you wern't so far away I would take you for a cup and tell you what a good deciosen you made.
We are pulling for you all the way.

Society as a whole has really frowned on the smoking thing. The stench of the smoke and the clothes of the people that smoke are disgusting, their breath too.
There was a guy that used to work at where I am at now and he was smoker, bad breath too. We used to call him Dragon Breath. Horrible.
If the federal government didnt make so much money off taxing it then it would be as illegal as cocaine.

New Year's Eve 1992-1993......20 years ago. Had quit drinking Feb 26, 1992 whem I got a nasty DWI....cost me somewhere around 5000 bucks before it was over. Thank God I didn't wreck or hurt anybody. I had got my first DWI in October 1973 and wrecked the daylights out of my '69 Ford Torino GT....after my first missus and I had had a nasty argument. Giving up bad habits were some of the greatest achievements in my 78 years.
