Loader Tractor

So I was rebuilding my 1650 Utility to become my main work tractor for general chore duties i.e. property maintenance, fire breaks etc.

Before Christmas thieves hit me for what was to them is scrap. Took the block, head and anything else with weight. Most likely got .10 / lb. for it.

Now I am faced with finding another 1650 or look for a newer tractor. All my fun $$ I saved now may get spent elsewhere.

Any comments on good working loader tractor - not wanting a new rig but one that is handy and that a person can still maintain. Like to stay around the 60-65 HP range.

How about going to the local scrap yards to see if you can find and get back your parts?
They might not give them to you, but you should be able to get it back at scrap price. Or you could go the police route...

Good luck with it,

Troy

(quoted from post at 20:54:58 12/28/12) You can not beat a Hydro for loader type of work.

The only hydro for real loader work is a skid loader.
I don't have enough hands to operate the bucket and the motion of the tractor. Tractors are best left to what they do best, run a PTO, use their weight for tillage and pulling things.

I vote skidloader for your projects listed.

You can vote skidloader all you want, but my 6400 had some tranny trouble a few years ago and was down for several weeks, while I borrowed a skidloader from a friend. It was a larger (783) Bobcat, and was easy to feed with, but took longer because it took twice as many trips. But the real test came in cleaning out the penpack in the beef barn. The 6400 does the job in foot deep manure in about three hours. The skidder took about a day and a half. Sometimes weight and traction will beat nimble and speed.

I'd stick with that 1650,but you already know that. Buy a Row Crop for parts if you have to. Wish I could find a 1550 or 1650 utility for a loader tractor, but I've only seen one around here ever.

My thinking is three options:

1) buy all the parts and fix the 1650 good as new, perhaps Cummins repower if Oliver/Cockshutt.

2) buy another 1650 or similar and mount your loader on it.

3) Buy another tractor and sell the 1650 remnants and loader.

Unless the 1650 was FWA with QA loader....I'd be buying something else, not sure on your budget, but I don't think you can go wrong with a Case IH 685/695 or similar 62 PTO HP, find one with fwa and loader.
