2000 2500 GMC

It takes it a long time for the rpm's to come
back down when you get off pedal. What is the
usual cause? Thanks for help.

Can't help you.
I bought that same model brand new off the lot.
4X4
4 weeks later it was stolen out of my yard.
Someone took it joy riding and totaled it.

I have a 2000 gmc 2500 and never had that problem--had a problem with it stalling at idle.
The problem was a dirty throttle body--so maybe thats holding yours open?

On a 5.7, it is the intake gaskets leaking. Fel- Pro Problem Solver Gaskets are the cure.

If it is a manual transmission, the computer is programmed to hold the rpms up longer to facilitate the shifting of the manual transmission. If not, it is probably carbon in the throttle body, as stated above. Wipe out with WD40.
