Exactly.Mike, although everybody seems to be suffering from temporary illiteracy when it comes to filling out the ag census, I'll bet they recover just fine when it's time to sign up for their favorite subsidy program. And of course our conspiracy theorists have no problem cashing the checks they receive from the UN henchmen at the USDA. Ha! |

You're right anyone that takes their $$$$ is then owned by the USDA and has the obligation to do their bidding. These folks that take Gov't $$$ and then say its none of the Gov't business what they're doing are full of Horse Poop.I'm a taxpayer and whoever takes my $$$ thru the Gov't just made their business MY business.

Everyone that drives a car or truck, buys license tags etc is paying their way on paying for public roads.Unlike those that drive tractors on them I might add.And the differnce is use of public roads is open to everyone all can use them so all get a benefit from them but in the case of Farm Welfare its only available to a few but all the taxpayers pony up the $$$$.

Well then you better write your congressman and tell them you want some changes, NOW! License tags are a state thing, there federal funds subsidizing our roads, who inspects meat so that it is legal to sell? I am wondering what farming practices make you a "Traditional Farmer"?

Last I heard there is a Federal and state tax on gas and diesel for on road use which finances the road system and most highways in the US are state maintained anyway. Not excepting Farm Welfare makes me a REAL Farmer not a Ward of the State.

next time you get sick from food that wasn't inspected (because you didn't want any gov. money in ag)let us know so we can laugh at you, you still haven't told us about your "traditional farm", I think I have one of those "traditional farms" too, I raise many of the same things my dad did, corn, soybeans, oats (no flax anymore though) I make hay off my waterways and hay fields to feed the cows. I guess after thinking about it except for some newer machinery and some new technology, many things are similar to what they were when I grew up so I guess I am a traditional farmer also!

I guess having beef cattle, raising a variety of crops and owning/leasing/renting about 1000 acres of land doesn't make me a real farmer? Or does not taking Gov't handouts not make me a real farmer.? Actually there are alot of farmers in my area that don't take any Gov't $$$.The ones that do take Gov't money are split between the Millionaires milking the Gov't and folks that can't make it farming and probably should be working for McDonalds.
