It's enough to really bring a persons private information to idiots that will take advantage.
I hope all of you folks in NY,who post here are NOT affected. That information is a private matter, and should remain that way, unless released by those who don't care if folks know they're armed. I feel sorry for those who got named,as it is a matter of personal privacy. I found the article interesting, along with the comments of those readers/gun owners in NY. For those who haven't seen it,below is a link,so you can see for yourself.Very interesting reading.

Saw that earlier today; from what I could gather, it focused on the downstate counties. Up here in the So. Tier and upstate NY, it might get a reaction opposite of what they intended: like seeing who DIDN't have guns.

Sounds to me like the folks involved have a good case to file a lawsuit against the paper if they are harrassed or robbed. As much as I hate crooked, sorry lawyers that make life hard on the honest folks, surely there are some that would simply love to put the paper in their place and sue them out of business.

Anytime the news mentions anything about firearms there is never any good press. I am unsure exactly how I would feel if my name and address were published as a gun owner. It might be a crime deterent. Wich house would a criminal prefer to rob, one that clearly has gun owners living there or the house that has none. Of course here in southern IN it would be a shorter list naming the houses without firearms, I can't think of anyone I know that doen't have at least one.

Mine was published in a big state-wide paper, along with thousands of others. Now Tenn. has a law against publishing permit carriers names & addresses. Did feel funny about seeing my name & address smeared all over the State.

Here in Texas if that happened to us we'd prolly cut it out and hang it on the fridge door with a sense of honor...

We don't have to have a license to possess 'round here... we understand the 2nd amendment purty good. You can't sling a dead cat around without hitting someone who's very well armed.

However... if you have a Texas CHL (Concealed Handgun License) the records are somewhat private. An individual can send off to the State of Texas in writing requesting to know if a specific person has a CHL or not, but... the person you inquired about also gets a letter from the State telling them there was an inquiry and exactly who made it. No aces up the sleeve, you wanna know, you gotta show your hand too.

If I lived in that area and wasn't on the list I'd be concerned.Any burglar or home invasion type will now consult that list to make sure the home they have targeted isn't on the list and won't have to deal with an armed homeowner.Makes it alot easier for the criminals when they are the only ones with a gun.Guess Christmas came early for the crooks.

They used to do that around here. Funny thing the criminals targeted those homes. One guy said the thieves looked everywhere you would normally keep a ccw weapon. Car glovebox, places like that. They werent looking for money, they needed a gun so they could get more money..It just takes a little more planning to rob an armed person..

I saw on a regional news cast yesterday that some towns in the Syracuse area are starting a gun buy back program. $200.00 for an "assault weapon" and on down.No questions asked but get this:MUST PRESENT A PHOTO ID! Only in a abundant state.

It's encouraging that there are 24,882 comments posted to that article. It might not be as easy to disarm the populace as some legislators and government agencies think.
