Flexicoil vs packer/land roller?

opinions? I know we discussed a little already. Looking for soil seed contact( would use prior t planting only), some stone packing, leveling for beans/small grains, but most importantly control of soil erosion, wind and rain. Do the flex i coils deal with min till cornstalks residue ok? Just looking for basic opinions based on knowledge.

We use a roller-harrow/pulvimulcher with riased teeth to 'pack' seed.Simply drive fast,it really packs/covers seed.

A Flexicoil will do very little to push rocks down. They actually will work rocks up. The way the are a spiral they have a sideways working action that is for leveling and some firming. This same sideways action does tend to work rocks up not push them down. They work to break clods up and firm the soil but that is about the most of it.

If you ever go through a muddy spot with one you will never want one again. They will fill up like a rolling basket will with mud. Then they are a real PIA to clean out.

I sold a few new ones years ago. I never would trade one back in. Told the guys they just did not sell in this area.

I personally like cultipackers. They level and firm the soil. They leave the soil with little groves that help control erosion. Plus trash does not effect them.

A friend bought a Brillion land commander some years ago that had one on the back. I never saw it in use. It has been in the weeds since shortly after he got it.

Use to see a lot of machines like that in Ohio when trucking thru there. Use two 15' Case cultipackers in a tandem rig I built to roll bean ground after planting. Smooth and break up the clods, but not so agressive as to make the ground blow.
