Insulation strips around garage doors. Mine are due for repalcement again. They do not last more than a couple of year's , due to the rubber strip that lay's next to the door being brittle and breaking in pieces. Anyone had this problem and what was your replacement ? Thanks, Murray

Are you talking about the strips along the top and sides that are nailed to the opening? I still have the originals on both my garage and shop doors. They're both around eight years old. Don't place them too close to the door; they just need to bend slightly when the door closes to seal.

Overhead Door Company has good ones. Those I have installed on houses have held up good through the years.

Most small hardeware stores, lumber yards and big box building supply stores carry those L-shaped strips for sealing the sides and top of overhead garage doors. Most kits are for 9ft x 7ft single car doors and 16ft x 7ft double doors. The kits are just a single roll of strip and some nails. They work well to keep wind, snow, rain, mice and insects outside.

Have you tried painting the strips to protect them from sunlight damage? When painted they last well over ten years before they get brittle in Minnesota.
