Old Man Winter

Yep, Old Man Winter is on his way! I don't know what he's driving, but it sure is noisy. After several days of mild weather, even for here in central NC, (I think it hit about 62 Tuesday,) the temp is dropping and the wind is blowing. Been raining off and on all afternoon. About 11:30 I heard a rumble, daughter said, you hear that? I said, yeah,it was either thunder or that big ol' Mayan stone wheel that that calendar's on coming to get us! My Blum's Almanac says Winter Solstice 6:11 am. for the 21st. I guess that's when it's official. So, I got almost 6hrs to wait, but I don't think I'm gonna stay up to greet him. I sure as heck ain't gonna leave HIM any milk and cookies! Oh, that reminds me, gotta check the anti-freeze in the TO30!

WesternNC 7:30AM Temps. 32 degrees, wind 8-13 with wind chill at 25 or so. Predicted high 43. Winds supposed to be in the 40mph range through Sat. Snow already happening northwest and northeast of here.

33 F and been snowing here for most of the day in central NY. Ground is still wet from heavy rain last night, so its just beginning to stick. Supposed to get 4 to 6 inches by tomorrow evening. This will be the first real snow we've had this winter.

SweetFeet, you are right! Takes two maybe three weeks before it is noticeable, but every little bit helps. When I was a kid the four seasons were noted a little differently by us kids. Summer began when school let out for the summer. Fall began when school started. Winter began when we had the first killing frost or freeze and spring began when it was dry enough to plow. Oh, yes,and every day was "labor day"!
