Trying something new.

My friend gave me 10 gallons of used fryer oil. He also gives me the empty jugs for my used drain oil, I in turn give them to another friend with a wast oil furnace. Any way I'm gonna oil the apron chain in my manure spreader with the veggie oil, even if I strain it I don't think I'd run it in my chain saws for bar oil. I'm thinking of dumping it in my oil tank for my oil boiler. Tanks half full, so I would think it would dilute and burn?? But since I heat with wood, I guess I'll have to wait to run the oil boiler, is this a good or bad idea? Any opions thanks.

I burn veggie oil once in awhile in my used oil furnace , it tends to plug the filters if I don't dilute it down with used oil ,,,I dump 5 gal veggie in 55 gal used oil

I should have said mine is a oil boiler that burnes furnace oil, or diesel fuel, or #2 bunker, or home heating oil, or what ever you wanna call it,

Strain the oil through a coffee filter and if the tank is inside and warm it would be OK. If the tank is out where it is cold the oil would plug in the filter. Every time we deep fry a turkey I strain the oil well and dump it in the fuel tank but only in the summer. Works fine just smells kinda funny. Mix it up to 5 or 6 percent....Ron

Veg oil will turn solid if cold. Since I don't use it much in cooking, I keep it in the frig and it will get about the consistency of butter at room temperature. Definitely will not flow and would clog filters until it warmed up and thinned.

Jay, You say you have a wood stove in the basement??? Rather than taking a chance of plugging the other stoves filters and such, maybe just use it on some wood to start your wood stove with??? It would not flash like fuel oil or gas. It would be a slow burning oil. I think it would work good in the wood stove.

I take the saw dust and shaving out of my wood working shop and soak them in used motor oil and burn them in my wood stove. You can really get a fire going fast with them. I would think the cooking oil would work the same and not be as messy as used diesel oil.

I use the stuff for chain oil.Kinda messy, but sticks better than anything else. And its free.Dogs just love it.They lick the ground, the machine....Apply it with a 2 gallon pump up garden sprayer.

I use it diluted with diesel fuel in my wood stove to start fires. Used alone, it doesn't burn well initially, as the flash point on vegetable oil is much higher than motor oil. It can be hard to get started burning when used by itself, In fact, when used alone, it tends to run down to the bottom of the stove and you'll not get a complete burn of it as it mixes with the ashes. I use a lot of my straight vegetable oil (canola oil) for dust control in my chicken house. Works wonderfully.

Just 10 gallons of vegetable oil, in a 275 gallon tank, or bigger of heating oil won't bother your furnace. If you want to be extra safe, filter it through a coffee filter, or paper towel.

Yes I have a woodstove in the basement, but it runs 24/7, but when I shut it down and use the kitchen stove, what you said sounds like a good idea. When it's not real cold out that one is on and off!
