Why farm trucks aren't stolen

I got a good laugh out of this, describes my feed truck pretty well.

TOP 10 REASONS FARM TRUCKS AREN'T STOLEN:

#10 They have about 20 miles before they overheat, breakdown or run out of fuel.

#9 Only the owner knows how to operate the door to get in or out.

#8 It is difficult to drive fast with all the fenceing tools, grease guns, ropes, chains, syringes, buckets, boots and loose papers in the cab.

#7 It takes too long to start, and the smoke coming up through the rusted-out floor clouds your vision.

#6 The Border Collie in the back looks mean.

#5 They're too easy to spot. The description might go something like this: The driver's side door is red, the passenger side door is green, the right front fender is yellow, etc.

#4 The large round bale in the back makes it hard to see if you're being chased. You could use the mirrors if they weren't cracked and covered with duct tape and cow manure.

#3 Top speed is approximately 45 mph.

#2 Who wants to steal a truck that needs a year's worth of maintenance, u- joints, $3,000 in body work, tail-lights and windshield?

#1 It is hard to commit a crime with everyone waving at you

I had an 83 f150 4x4 like that. It had somewhere
around 250k on it when the old 300 6cyl expired.
hard to beat those old 4 speed cast iron trannys

Thats funny, but true. Several years ago we had dads 65 chevy field pickup sitting in a field along a highway. It was dry out and we had it hooked to an old water trailer in case of fire while making hay. We came back a few days later to get it and the key was on, battery dead, and trailer unhooked, but not moved. They must not have known how to run a manual choke or pump the pedal and coudn't get it started.

That about sums it up.My farm insurance agent asked me why I didn't have insurance on my tractors for things like theft, told him no self repecting thief would stal one and if they decided to they'd never figure out how to get one of them started

I used to say that I could leave the old Mercury Lynx hatchback idling with a full tank of fuel in front of a convenience store in the bad part of town and nobody would steal it!

We did have a neighbor that would drive his tractor over, get in our IH pickup and make a beer run to town and back - and stole tools out of the truck when he did it! He quit doing that after I threatened to ventilate him with the 30-30.

Funny, but not quite true...

Guy I used to spray crops for up by Beaver Dam had his pickup stolen and driven to the Dakotas. The thieves were two kids who then murdered an elderly couple out there.

Here in southern mich that definition would have
been correct 40 years ago , now most of the farmers
drive at least 40,000.00 pickups and register them
with log / farm plates at a extremely reduced cost.

Funny and so true about the definitions. For years I drove 1. A 76 yellow Chevette that I hoped someone would steal. 2. Red Chevette, same story. 3. 92 rusted out S-10 that I was hoping would not be stolen because the thief might wreck it and turn around and sue me for having an unsafe vehicle available for him to steal. Then there's the 79 Dodge. Someone might steal it but a person who steals that thing wouldn't be able to afford the gas to keep it going. Jim

Friend owns a feed service store. Store was broken into and they found the keys for the store's delivery pickups. They stoled the truck with the automatic transmission, the one with the manual transmission they left it with the keys in the ignition.

we were not too concerned if you stole the truck but we sure didn't want you to have the grain that was in it. sharing this on FB, too funny

I was thinking about you when I read this. My truck(similar to yours) is backed in a shed near the road. I started removing the key after I read about yours.

I got held up when I was 16, doing a delivery for my dads machine shop in Detroit. I only had $3 in my wallet, the robber asked for the keys. I threw them down and started running. I got to the corner, looked back, and the thief was driving away in the opposite direction in the truck. But he had a lot of trouble, he couldn't handle the 3 on the tree tranny. He jumped out and abandoned it after a block. I walked down, got it, completed the delivery. I was p'od, the $3 was my lunch money!! The truck was nearly new, and it had about $4K worth of parts in the bed. My dad never had me do a delivery there again.

Couldn't stop laughing, drive mine every day

Had an old R model Mack tractor twice thieves tried to steal, always around Christmas only thing that saved it they could not figure out how to work that 2 stick 6 speed.

Ours did not have the keys in it. My suspicion is that it was stolen by a band of professional thieves and to them no key is a 30 second barrier to getting the thing running.
