OT Gate opener Mighty Mule

I have a Mighty Mule 200. It has squeaked a few times but instantly cured by wd40 on the shaft. Now its squeaking and wont stop. There is also a scratch on top of the shaft. Ive had it fot 4+ years and no problems, it is still working. Im wondering if I should take it apart and clean/lube it? I do drive my tractor (MF35) thru it.

Its not the gate or any pivot point they are greased good. Will try some oil. Ive watched the scratch get longer over a week and the squeak coincide with it.

Your gate opener is what is called a linier actuator, basicly its a threaded rod passing through a nut and driven by a electric motor, I belive the problem is that the threads are dry and or rusty, get some lube inside the tube and it should quiet the squeek somewhat

I second what Handyman stated.

Use PB Blaster or Marvel Mystery Oil, do NOT use
WD40 . WD40 is neither a lubricant or penetrant, the
letters "WD" stand for WATER DISPLACING.

So Dr. That capital NO makes it look like it must be against the law to use WD-40. Could you familiarize me with that law? I do a fair amount of lubricating here, using many different lubricants. I have two squirt cans with ATF in them, and one with a little heavier oil, I have probably three different PB Blaster type products, I have a one quart bottle with 90 WT in it. I have three different greases, and Never Seize, I have fogging oil, and I have aerosol chain lube. I also keep a can of WD-40 in two different places in the shop. I also have aerosol carb cleaner and contacts cleaner though I don't consider to be lubricants. So if I am using this many different lubricants and still go through WD-40, please tell me what am I ruining, or what law am I breaking that requires you to COMMAND me to stop using it.

I used PB Blaster on it also. I know PB and wd40 are differant but kinda the same. They are light lubes that evaporate quickly. I used it to oil it and it squeaked very little. I also, put oil on it and cycled it a time or two and its stopped for now. I think I want to open it up and clean /lube it good. Thanks for all the knowledge.

I hope you have better luck disassembling the MM arm than I did. That little thing is more complicated with limit switches than I imagined.

Showcrop, ya running low on meds?

If anyone cares, WD-40 is mostly fish oil and as stated, it is a water displacement and a very good solvent. not only cleans parts but hands
too. Follow it up with a real oil. An excellant spray lube for tight ares is "Tri-Flo".

I have a similar gate opener not a mighty mule. I have taken
the arm apart. The motor is tiny, everything is light duty. I
would take it apart and lube it with oil.
Mine is dead. We had a lightning strike nearby and it fried
the circuit board. A new board costs as much as the whole
setup. I am hosed.
