I am looking for a Delco alternator with the plug at the nine o'clock position What GM vehicle takes the one at 9 o'clock and small amps.
Parts kids are lost, they have to know what vehicle. I can find 3 o'clock but not nine. I tried in the archives, but could not narraw it down.

Reposition the back half of the alternator to where you need it. Take out the long bolts holding the halves together and spin the rear half to where you need it. Caution: do not separate the halves unless you are experienced in reassembly!

I just 'extended' my wires to reach when I replaced my alternator (I had to 'register' my 1961 MF35 as a 1981 Camaro)...

All you will need to do is remove the four long screws as was indicated. If you do separate the halves they are not that hard to put back together, all you need is a small wire or a paper clip to hold the brushes inside the holder. There are holes in the holder and in the case of the alt so that the wire can be withdrawn after the case is reassembled and the brushes will be able to do what they are supposed to do.

Delco rebuilt SI alternators (from Delco) are all shipped in the 3:00 position and leave it to the installers to change as necessary.

I can tell you the 1985 caprice alternator on my Case 800 is at 12:00. which works good for that application.

THe 9N has a rebuilt Azone unit (no idea what model) and its at 3:00 which works but leaves the wires a bit exposed to branches ect.

It is very very easy to adjust that plug any place in 4 positions that you want. Simply remove the 4 bolts that hold it together. Then carefully pull it apart just enough that the locking nubs clear and rotate the parts as you need it. If should take around a 1/16 of an inch or less to clear those nubs. If you go to wide the brushes will fall down and then you will have to open it up all the way and use a paper clip in the given holes to hold them in place and then you can put it back together

Most brush kits I have picked up over the years from the factory came with a metal sort of pin so that is why I say a paper clip but it has been years since I even bothered to replace brushed in one since now days I only buy them with life time warranties so I no longer have the need to open one up

You can buy a box of brushes (enough for 6 alternators) cheaper than the cost of a "lifetime warranty". I buy the parts & keep 2 or 3 rebuilt units on the shelf as "Spares".

Best re-figure that. If your time is worth something and then what it cost to buy brushes then your still only doing a band aid fix since brushes are no where near what all need to be done to one most of the time. Plus when it cost me $45 for an alternator with a life time warranty I figure I save much more seeing as I do not have o do more then switch it out. But do it your way and then you have to do it again and again my way for my time and trouble I am way way ahead
