Been a long time since I saw a shaft with oil cups for the bearings. Dad's old wood saw was made like that. He would put string in the cups until they were about half full and then fill them with oil. I guess the string help keep the oil from vibrating and sloshing.

Had one at my great grandpas farm that had pedals and a seat for power. Not the "modern" belt drive like yours!

Still trying to figure out which family member "borrowed" it. arrh.

That looks like a dangerous machine. Those old soft sandstones couldn't take too many RPM's or they would fly apart and throw chunks of stone in many different directions.

Dad had one sorta like that on the line shaft that used to be in the shop. Not many survived around here, too cold, folks leave them in water and things bust including the stone. At the least the pan rusts out - eh? :)

Dad put a jackshaft and an electric motor on, he used it a lot. It's way back in the chicken barn, add water to the tin pan and I think it's ready to go....

Dad had one of those grindstones on a lousey homemade stand. Got tired of lugging the stand around so scrapped it. Still have the stone. Makes a great top for a side table. Helps keep the beer cold ;-)
