I change my own tires most of the time but I found a good set of snow tires to put on my little PowerKing tractor and one of them was on a split rim . I did not want to fool with it so I sent the split rim and tire and the flat PowerKing tire to town with my wife for changing . Like I say I change my own so did not know what it would cost . Wife gets home and said it cost $40 , Have prices went up that much or did I get took . She asked about changing the other one that is not on a split rim and he said it would be $40 also . This is the big tire shop .

I suppose it depends on where you live. I had one changed last week and with a new valve stem and tax it was 14.68. They dismounted two and mounted one and balanced it.

I recently had snow tires put on front of wifes van I supplied the tires and the bill was $33.00 + tax. That included mounting, balancing, new valve stems and old tire disposal.

maybe a little high but not too far off. i paid $25 to put a new tube in a rear tractor tire that i had already unloaded, broken down, and supplied the tube.

Local place here charges $10 for each mount/dismount of [u:b05edd8b04]your[/u:b05edd8b04] tires.
Free if you buy a used one from them.

Most places around here won't even work on a split rim. Those things have killed people.

Had a flat tire on a Bobcat a couple months ago. Didn't have time to mess with it, so took the tire to town. He took the tire off the rim, fixed the hole, remounted it, and put it in the truck. Cost me $5.....

Had a tire go bad on a Ranger pick-up. I took it off and put a useable one in place of the blown out one. Next day threw the 4 new tires that have be sitting in the back shop for a couple of years. Drove the 6 or so miles to the next town where I had planed to have a man I have known for many years swap them around for me but.....His shop was locked up (he"s semi-retired) So I drove down the highway a few blocks to a service station that I have known the family of for over 30 years, stop asked the Son now running the business with his son says, shure just pull up here and I"ll roll out a jack, air hose and impact and 4 bar and you can take them off and roll them in and I"ll change them. Well I removed all four tires and wheels, took off the old weights and as he swaped them over I went in brought them back out and re-installed them on my truck. All was well ??? didn"t ask a price in advance of all MY WORK,,,,He charged me over 60 bucks, for the pleasure of doing said work I guess

I bought a couple of used tires for my wife's van from my neighbor. I called around to tire places in the city I work in and none of the tire shops would even do it (at any price). They said they will only mount new tires that they sell! Had to have my Dad run the tires and rims to a local place that's only open when I'm working. They charged $5 per tire.

Cost aside, I was always nervous doing split rims on trucks. Had a real nice, stout cage, but just the same, the thought of having one come apart always bothered me, and I always took a wire brush to the rim and snap ring collar before putting them together and inflating. Never had one seperate, but was always nervous about having one blow, have the snap ring bounce around in the cage and loose a hand or fingers before knew it happened. Do I miss split rims? Made the day more exciting, I will give them that.

Tire shops generally charge $15-$20 per tire for car/truck tires, and technically you did have TWO tires to change.

You were taking the tire OFF the split rim weren't you? You weren't going to re-use the split rim, right?

The big danger with split rims is airing them up. With all the air let out there's no danger of the ring blowing off and killing you.
