Any remedies to cure a puncture from honey locust thorns? I had one go through the side of my leather work shoes yesterday while cutting some fire wood. My wife opened it up this evening and has me soaking it in hot water and peroxide. I had one on my index finger this spring and it never healed real well. |

When working for the neighbor as a kid, I got a puncture wound on the inside of my calf from a rusty nail. His wife applied bacon held on by a bandage. I recall my mother's reaction as kind of ho hum and she left it. It healed nicely. |

| The tip of a locust thorn can break off deep in the wound. Keep an eye on it, and if your tetanus is out of date (10 yr) you better go get a shot. |

| I'm wondering if drawing salve would help, even a day or two later? Mom used to put that on me when I would have a wound or infection, always healed up quick. A few years ago I had an ingrown whisker (ouch) and I discovered they still sell the stuff. Called "Prid" (Smile's Prid Homeopathic Salve from Walker Pharmacal Co. St. Louis MO), comes in a small orange tin and I got it at Wal Mart. Pulled that painful whisker out over night. Might pull the poison out from your wound. |

| Had one stab me in the belly while I was mowing some brush a couple of weeks ago. Noticed a spot on my t-shirt that evening about the size of a quarter- blood spot. Still have a big bruise there.... |

| No real wisdom to share but I have those dang things on my property and it seems like the main thing is to make sure you get the entire thorn out of the wound. I think the peroxide soak is probably as good as anything. They do seem to have something on those thorns that is an irritant, don't they. |
