ih three point lift arms

Been using an IH 806 with 2 point lift arms. There are slip in three pont arms with ball ends but when using it as three point lift sometimes there is a problem. There is a "Y" setup from under the belly of the tractor and then there are hinges about under the axles. extra weigth on the arms causes the lift arms to "break-over" or fall lower to the ground. There is a place to put 3/4 pins in the arms as a temporary fix,but why are these there, what purpose do they serve?
What is the correct way to use them? Thanks.

Only time I pulled those pins was for plowing. I had a heavy 8 row 3 pt cultivator that I used with the fast hitch 3 pt adapters and no problems.

Put the pins in and leave them.As was said, about the only time you will need them to flex is when pulling a mounted plow.
