Thanks fellas for the info. concerning the fuel filters and for the info. on the start up after replacing the filters.

NOW Where is the OIL filter on a 3 cylinder Detroit??????

Thank you

Lenray since anyone did not answer I will give you my best guess. Been years since I owned on but seems to me I remember the 3/53 being a metal canister that lays down long ways on the right side of the engine. I guess it could be mounted vertical in some applications but look for a round can about 8 inches long held in place by a bolt in the end. Hope this helps . jm.

Depends. The full flow filters are bolted onto the side of the oil to water cooler beside the water pump. Or there is a bypass filter mounted just about anywhere with little bitty dia lines.

It is frequent to mount the filter of a Detroit to the frame of what is being powered. While usually this makes it easy to get to on a Navy Capt Gig it is often mounted behind the engine in the worst possible spot. Sometimes they are mounted by the cooler, as has been mentioned.

Bob I was on the Capts gig for the Saratoga. You are correct. They did mount them on some real hard spots to get to.

The popular add on filter was a "Lubafilter", about the size of three #10 cans stacked on top of one anther, with two clamps around it.
