Having lived near the lower Great lakes all my life and kept an eye on the weather, could anyone have an explanation as to why,in advance of cold, wet, miserable weather does the temperature of the tap water drop considerably.Still wondering. POPCORN.

Well, living here in Michigan,I can tell you why mine does. The weather you describe is preceded by an east wind, and the plumbing in this old farm house is all on the east side of the house. Which side is your's on?

Failed to mention, always with an east wind, similar to the forcast for today, plumbing all over the home, water supply via underground pipe from filtration plant miles away

You might check to see how well your pipes are protected use insulation that is recommended for your area also close up any vents around the foundation for the winter. A lot of protection can go a long way. If your water pipe has a long reach to the house make it is wel buried in the ground 4 to 5 ft. In cold country is best but just make sure it's well below the frost line. Also where it enters the house use double the insulation on all outside pipes. This should keep it at a constant temp.
