b.jones 12-06-2012 15:52:52 70.249.161.178 Report to Moderator	A friend of mine has decided to plow his 40 acres of bottom ground. It has a thick layer of sand under the top soil from a flood many years ago. I rode several rounds with him today. A one bottom pull type plow. He is pulling it behind a 9300 John Deere with duals all around and about 5000 of added weight. The Deere was having traction problems so he has a 7930 on front pulling the 9300. I think all total the 2 tractors should weigh around 50000. We measured the furrow today and we were going around 36 inches deep. I think the plow weighs around 5000 lbs. It was doing a very nice job of plowing but we were only doing around 1 acre per hour. It is not going to be a cheap job. Going around 4 mph. He hopes to bring up some good dirt from way down under. The biggest one bottom plow I had ever seen. The 1 bottom by itself is about 4 feet tall. [Reply]   [No Email]

I have a JD single bottom Trailing trip plow with a 24" bottom that will easily turn 18" sure use up a 100 hp. It was mostly pulled behind a HD 7. to plow out Gambles Oak roots in newly cleared land [Reply]  [No Email]

I'm told it was a single bottom plow of about 24-26" that was pulled with a bulldozer out in the bog meadows. It was also used on the brush lands. I sure wish I still had it even if it was just for the oddball value. It must have gone for scrap just before I bought the place. [Reply]  [No Email]

To reclaim land under situations such as that, or at least to mix the good soil with the sand so it will be useful. They are also used for drainage ditches, etc. (So I've been told).
