Metal Sheeting Question

What does used metal sheeting go for typically? A fellow down the road has a pile that he took off an old airplane hanger. He thougth he might build something with it someday but doesnt think he will ever do anything with it so now he wants to sell. I would like to use it to build a small implement shed. What is the going rate for sheeting like this?

Thanks!

ballparking... I think around $2 per running foot, for 36inch wide panels. This is new, so you should be well less than that.

I'd figure out what it would cost new and what it's worth as scrap. Offer scrap or 1/2 of new and dicker from there.

I'd offer him a lump sum for the piles of tin.

You'll have to do something about the holes in the tin you use on the roof, or you'll have a leaker.

Ive seen it go from literally nothing to new price. so anything i would say would be a guess.one thing to figure on though, when your using tin thats been used, to cover the maximum number of nail holes, you will have to over lap it more than you normally would. so it will take more sheets per square. take that into your planning/paying.

If that"s galvanized stacked outside without cover, it"s most likely white rusted in the pile where the air can"t get to it. Look down in the pile before making an offer.

that's the best way - weigh a panel or two - figure the scrap value, and there you go.

Either scrap value or a little less.
You're doing him a favor by moving it.

If you buy it build your barn with the purlin spacing to match the holes in the tin. It the hole spacing is all over the map it might be more trouble than it is worth.

That appears to be 26" width. New it goes between $1 and $2 per foot, depending on gauge.

If this is good stiff tin, no rust, just nail holes and no damage I'd pay about one-third of original price if I had a need for it. Sealing the holes can be a PITA.
