New Holland LS170 skid loader

I have a New holland LS170 skid loader that is having starting problems. when I turn the key it just clicks once. If if keep turning it eventually it will start. Is there a relay switch? bad starter? Or other ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Relay...follow the wire either from the starter motor or the key switch to the relay. It should be some place near the starter, mounted on a wall or something.

I haeve a LS180 that did the same thing u till I discovered the loose starter. At some point in the past someone replaced the starter and didn't put in the back bolt.

There are a couple of relays in the engine compartment. IIRC, there's a cube relay that's controlled by the ecm. The cube relay fires a heavier relay on the firewall... I think.
The problem could be related to a bad relay, a bad solenoid on the starter, a bad key switch, or a problem in the myriad of wiring in the TWO seat switches and seatbelt switch that controls the lockouts for the ECM. The first place I check is the seat switches and their multiconnectors, then the seat belt switch. Those are by far the most likely sources of the problem. There is also a 5 amp fuse in the engine fuse panel that can blow... and that will do the same... but this is for the ECM... so if it's blown the panel will be dead.

Those starters have alot of issues with the solenoid. My guess is the solenoid.
Flip the machine into "service" mode. Now try to start it. If the problem goes away it is your start interlock relay. If the problem doesnt go away it is eithe your start relay or your starter. Let me know what you find. Email is open...

Ours did the same and it was the connections on the seat switch. Happened around 1800 hours. Been a great machine all told. Put a starter and a battery in it over 2300 hours.
