Char Lynn woes

I use a Farmall M as my loader tractor. It originally had a Char Lynn power steering unit but the guy before me took it apart and lost the drive piece from one side to another.

I bought a unit off of another tractor that was working before the tractor was junked many years ago. I looked at it carefully as I disassembled it making sure they were the same. The unit was rusted inside or I would have just used it instead of robbing that part.

I promise I was REALLY, REALLY careful to mark everything, but the repaired unit is possessed! I was sure I would be ok (this is the point where I would usually laugh at someone else for being foolish). It does all of the things you hear about - spinning wildly stop to stop on its own, etc.

What is it exactly that is out of phase inside? Folks have told me to be careful and mark everything, but no one has told me what it is that might get "off" and cause the issue. I figured I just might be lucky enough to do it but no dice.

Gotta do something - I have no loader tractor!

Glenster has a manual he can email you and it tells how to center it, etc. When he sees your post he will contact you about sending it to you.

He was good enough to send me the manual a week or so ago. I didnt see anything in there about what to do when your steering is Devil possessed. I'm guessing they didn't figure someone like me would rip it apart. I'm guessing they were wrong.

the lines are reversed, I have seen that happen on a car before, fittings were same size, start engine and steering wheel goes from lock to lock by itself wildly. reversed lines and all was well. pressure and return .

You need to move the shaft one spline to the right or left, its the one that sticks into the gear rotor. Its easyer to do than explain with words.
