OT---Generator

TSC is advertising a Black Friday sale on a 1,400 watt generator for $150. I know nothing about generators, and not much about electricity in general. My question: what can a generator this size do? Can it power a tombstone stick welder, or even a small box welder? Can it run other tools---saws, drills, etc.?

thats big enuff to MAYBE run a tv or lights...nowhere near enuff for a welder.
i got a surplus Kohler Army generator...it barely runs my Lincoln tombstone.

I would want a 6KW unit to consider running a saw or small welder off of. A 1.4KW unit would run a TV or small drill, gotta remember that is the wattage of a small hair dryer.

I have a 4,500 that is big enough to boost the deep freeze and fridge if the lights go out. It runs lights and the well pump. I don't power everything at the same time as its a bit small.

1400W peak and maybe even 1400VA if you read the fine print.
It's enough to run some battery chargers, some refrigerators, some freezers, some microwaves, most toasters, plug in lights, some sump pumps. Most engine block heaters or lighting loads in a camper or boat. One load at a time that is.

My Honda 5000 watt cant even power my stick welder, as far as the tsc one, I bought one there last winter, it's a 2000 watt one, been great so far. It's light enough to pick up and put on my ATV rack, so I can bring it anywhere I need power for drill, saw light , ect. I used it Sunday to screw down metal roofing on the hens house, after the cordless one died! I don't think you can go wrong with a small generator, there handy!

I have a 5000 watt genny and it will run a tombstone welder.....but.....1/16 inch electrodes and 60 amps max AND not any kind of duty cycle.

I have used it to weld hinges on to gates etc, but low amps, small rods, and slow going.

You will be fine for hand tools, probably not enough for a welder. Would probably handle a frig or a microwave, but not both at once.

Portable generators come in real handy.

For that price, I would get it.

There is a lot to know about generators. Things i have learned is if you run any kind of electronic equipment from a gen it should be an inverter gen that puts out clean electricity. It can destroy things if not done right. I have a coleman and it says in the directions you need a power line conditioner to run electronic things. That little honda 2000 watt inverter generator is a very good one.
