I put on a few old parts tractors for sale. I got an answer form someone from a forign country. He said he would forward something called US Funds Bank Draft.
I said that he would have to wait till I had cashed the check/draft, and that it had cleared the bank.
Im told that can take up to a month.
Ive have asked others and they all think its a scam.
Im wondering cause he only asked for specific tractors and models of them. I would think that he would ask me if I had any more so as to fill a container, I would believe that.
He also mentioned a place close to my home state so that I might know the name of the town. I didnt till I looked it up. It exists.

Haveing never had any experience of the sort, I thought you might have

They are slick. They will refer to places like you mentioned so you will think they are legit. A lot of them will send you a check larger than the agreed amount and want you to send them a check for the difference. THAT'S where they get you. Their check is no good, but by the time you find that out they have your money and you are SOL.

its a scam, think about it, unless the tractors are super rare units nobody is going to pay current freight prices to a forgin country on old tractors or their parts, that stuff is heavy, second if there is something you have that a collector just has to have to finish up his tractor that person is going to find a way to get the money to you fast so he doesn't loose the part to another person, tractor people know other people from all over they'd just have somebody in the U.S. come and buy it for them , your buyer just sounds like another twist of the old Nigerian scam to me

I have no doubt that it's a scam, yet, according to your statement he sent you a bank draft and appears willing to wait till it clears to pick up the tractor. If the bank draft clears for the amount agreed on, however, there is no reason to not let him take possesion of the tractor. He would have paid for it, once the draft clears. I just wouldn't let him take the tractor till it clears. It is not that surprising that someone overseas would want an old American tractor. In Africa and South America old American trucks and tractors are very popular.

Real buyers and sellers usually have a phone number they can be reached at.. If this dude needed some parts; wouldn"t he be getting in contact with a salvage yard that will ship overseas... Ask him to give you a call; Bet he doesn"t respond.... None of them have for me..
If he is for real, and needed tractor parts, wouldn't he respond???

The standard scam is for them to send you a check for more than the purchase amount, and to convince you to wire the excess back to them. If that's not the deal, then it could be legit. There is a market for old tractor parts overseas.

How are you supposed to ship the parts? Usually the scammer isn't actually interested in what you're selling and will make up some nonsense about having someone pick up your item. If it's to go to a legitimate freight forwarder, for example, it's probably legit.

Paypal might be an option to consider here. You might also ask for references, someone with whom he's already done business.

When I was selling my $80,000 dump truck I had a call about shipping it somewhere by container including asking me for exterior dimensions. I complied, no big deal but never saw $ so truck never moved. No big deal.

It is a scam. Your bank may tell you it cleared in a week or two and a month later it bounces. Have seen this happen many times. Cashier's check these days is only as good as who actually printed it. Don't fall for the trap that it must be good if it is a bankcheck. Only genuine green US currency checked for counterfeiting is sufficient to release the merchandise. IT is a SCAM!
