My wife needs to sell her deceased mother's 2011
Buick Lucerne. What is the best method to do this?
Internet site? Local shopper? We already have it
setting out at end of drive; please advise. Thanks

I have looked on Craigs list and no one advertises cars of this value there. This car is one year old with 9000 miles and value of $22,000. Also don't know how you expect anyone to come with that much cash. Maybe that is typical. I admit I am really out of the loop when it comes to selling cars.

I'm with USAA insurance they have a program to list it with them and they'll accumulate a group of qualified cash offers. I'm sure there are other services or organizations that will do the same for you, USAA is probably partnering with someone on this service. Auto Trader or any local auto sales magazine/newspaper, Wheeler Dealer or trading times, your local newspaper and Craig's list all work well, the question is how much hassle do you want to deal with? Understand as much as 30% of you inquiries will be attempted scams or people that can't afford to buy it or are hoping to get a deal, some will be real jerks and get aggressive in trying to get you to sell it to them for less that it's worth.

In retail auto sales the money is in used cars, but the money is made during the purchase, meaning a dealer will have to buy it right. They may go above what they can buy them at auction for but you have to know what it's worth and understand they have to make money and they don't have a new car sale to make a thin deal attractive to them.

2011 is kind of new, your market is limited to people who have cash money OR what the bank will lend on it plus whatever they have in their pocket($), a lot of buyers want to trade their old car in for the downpayment. If you have a hometown bank or credit union see if they have a bulletin board and what they'd loan on it maybe try to get $1,000 to $1,500 over what they'd loan.

saw a guy come up from Florida for a Hummer that was on autotrader.com 40 to 50k
wire transfer at the bank kept it leagal with all the documention for a cash deal

There are lots of spell check programs online search for that will work. My IPad has one built in it just corrected iPad for me.

First go to KBB.com, or nada.com. Plug in the data and choose the private seller value. Dealer pricwe is retail, private seller is mid value, trade in is wholesale. Yoh should try to get private level or some abovr wholesale.
Then get 6-8 good photos on a cloudy day. Or inside.
Then list online . List your phone number. Don't email anyone who has a "shipper". Buyer comes to your place period.
Don't park it in driveway. Drive it as much as you can with the for sale signs and lettering on it. It will be seen by more people when you go to Walmart than will see it all day at your place.
Do you have a friend that has a business on a high traffic street in town?
Good Luck. A caveman can do it.

Like bruce said pay a dealer a fee to consign it.
Unless you want to put up with deadbeats, low ballers and scammers.A car of that value will probably have to be financed to be sold.Banks don't loan money on cars individuals are selling, only dealers.

Banks will finance cars sold by individuals it just becomes more difficult. Is the Buick free & clear or is their a lien on the title? If a lien do you have the title and does the lien holder have it? Is their an office of the lienholder in your area so you can give them the check and get them to release the lien? Oh yes and you'll have to go to the lending institution that the new owner is using with the title so they can insure their security interest (lien)is recorded on the title before it's sent to the state they might insist this be done before they'll issue a check. I did close one deal on a personal transaction by taking a check made out to me and the finance company, signing off the title giving it to the buyer and sending the check to the finance company with instructions to send the lien release to the buyer, but that was selling a mobile home to my sister's in laws. They were parking the trailer at their farm for the grandparents so they weren't real worried about time to get the title. Some dealers will handle the business end of the sale for you for a fee and maybe even get your buyer financing- for a fee. And remember the first post I made BANKS WILL ONLY LOAN A CERTAIN AMOUNT, MAYBE EVEN LESS THAT WHOLESALE ON A CAR. That usually means the buyer still has to have some cash in their pocket to make the deal float and that's usually the problem.

I agree, have a dealer sell it for you. when my brother died 4 years ago we did just that with his car. Took maybe a month and we didn't have to deal with tire kickers.

I see vehicles of this value for sale on craigslist all the time. Also, you might check out ebay. A lot of times people will drive a long way to pick up a car this new.

To sell my late aunts car, we just posted a for sale flyer on the bullited board in har apartment building. Had it sold for dealer price in 4 days. everyone there knew the car and how it was cared for.
