Garage door opener problem

I was called to see if I could find out what is wrong with a Liftmaster Elite garage door opener. After waiting on hold on the hotline for 20 minutes and not being able to understand what was being said when I finally got some help I decided to try here also.
The problem is that the door will not close unless you hold the close button down. The "eyes" are lined up and when the signal is broken the indicater light shows that it is working right. There is an RPM monitor that appears to be working fine also. I disconnected the door from the opener in case it was binding somehow and that made no difference. I am thinking that maybe the circuit board maybe is low on water >:).
Does anyone have any knowledge or ideas? thanks Greg.

Had same problem with an "Overhead" garage door. It was a broken wire. The wire was to the sensor, I think. I fiddled with it for a couple days and finally called the door company.

Greg, I once had the sensors go bad, however they had both a green and red light indicating they were working fine.

I bought a new opener and tried to use the old sensors. That's when I discovered the sensors were bad. My opener wouldn't go down at all with bad sensors.

If you can"t fix it with a hammer then you have a electrical problem.
Actually, i believe you have a bad sensor and probably only one but you have to buy a pair. I replaced mine once from lowes.

Just tell the wife to get out of the car to open and close the door. It may be noisier than the electric one but at least you can free yourself from working on the darn garage door :)

I would sure like to know what you find out Greg.
I have two overhead doors in my garage, and one of them is doing the same thing.
Different brand, but the sensor lights are lit correctly just as you describe.
For grins, I swapped the sensors from one door to the other.
It didn't make any difference on mine. Good door still good, bad door still bad.
By the way, mine started this about two years ago.
Then it decided to work for a little over a year, remote included.
Now its back to having to hold the button to close.

OK , got back and found the instruction manual online finally. Sounds like you were right and probably a bad sensor. Thanks, and the deer incident went ok. Dad is getting arthritis in his thumbs and it makes holding a knife tough.

Had a near-by lightning strike that took out 3 sensors and a circuit board (inside one of the openers). They would raise the door ok, but wouldn't close unless I held the button down.
