i am restoring my grandpa"s "39 jd B, the motor was locked up i got pistons loose and out along with the crankshaft they are at machine shop getting cleaned, inspected and repaired. Anyway i dont have the camshaft or governor off or out but it is not turning all the way around. I am turing the gear that the gear on the crank would turn to move the camshaft gear and it turns about halfway and stops. It is all functioning because the fan turns with it along with the magneto gear. It seems like it just needs lubricated and worked back and forth. I dont want to tear all that apart if i dont have to so if anybody has any ideas for me id really apprciate it. Thank you for reading and helping!

Do pushrods and lifters rust in their bores on these? If so a lifter may be rusted in place effectively limiting rotation Jim

Yes you have a lifter rusted in the bore. When you get the cam removed you should be able to drive them right out.

I'd tear into it as those governors collect moisture and didn't lube well and things get rusted up in there and then chew theirselves up.
If caught early they are alot cheaper to repair then after the gears are all chewed up.

i looked and the 4 cam followers arent moving when i move the cam. so i need to get them loose. i will put pressure on them with a rod down the push rod hole.

B oil oil pumps are prone to taking on water. The pump could be rusted.I would take the pump down and have a look.Ive found them with ice inside and the pump coupling broken.
