1. as a collector

2. as a work tractor.

Me

JD R, dad had one and my older kids have great stories about how they played on it when grandpa wasn't using it.

An IH 560D, 706/66 06 806/26/56. sized right for what I'm doing and I have grat memories of the hours I spent on them. Have bigger and smaller so filling a void.

Rick

farmall c first tractor i bought good all round
tractor for what i do i also have smaller farmall
cub and bigger farmall super mta

SC Case! spent many days cultivating corn, in the Illinois river bottom, for my dad, and picking up bales, and pulling to the barn with the little SC. also ran a belt on the corn elevator when putting the corn in the crib. The SC was the all around handyman. Sure was fun to kick the pedal and raise the cultivator, it happened right now!

As A Collecter. Lanz Bulldog.
John Deere. R. D Or B.
Fordson E27N.
Not sure about a work tractor, would depend on
acreage etc.

I would love a Massey Ferguson 1150 as a collector tractor.
For a work tractor ...right now I would like a Massey Ferguson
6480. But then I only like Masseys.....! reared on them and lived on
them ever since!
Sam

1. For collecting, a Massey 180 or a 4020 Powershift.

2. For work, the same. Want a 180 for something that can run my v-rake and baler, with better fuel economy than my 4010 gas. Want the 4020PS, because I love my synchro 4020, and a PS sister would be handy.

For a collector tractor, it's always been a tie between a JD620 with full orchard tin, and a JD730 Diesel row crop with wide front. For a work tractor, already have it, JD6420.

good choicefor collecting ,, DC is my preference.i work all of mine .I own a 4020 Powershit, yes , its a good tractor once it is started..i like the 1070 Case cab for tillage work .. , the 800 CASE-O-Matic is my favorite parade tractor ,, just idle ,and, put it in 8th gear and ease on the brake to keep pace ..

For collecting purposes one of each would suit me just fine. Not sure about a working tractor, But I would probably lean towards an Oliver.
Tony

Collector - Massey diesel 165 or possibly a Ford 860 or 960 diesel.
Work - have a New Holland G210, but the family favorite is my IH 1086. If we had to get out of this business, the 1086 would be the hardest to part with - just does so many things for us. Ken

My collector has been in the family for over 10 years - JD 730 D SE W with most factory options, weights, etc.
Why? It still holds a good line on fuel economy while producing excellent power. Parts are still available.

My work tractors are two JD M's. One has a Model 20 sickle mower, the other is used for various duties.

They get all work done and are cheap to operate. Besides, nothing sounds like a two cylinder JD!

either the very first or the very last 4020 built.

I've already got the workers I wanted. MF150, Deere 4230, Deere 4450.

as a worker, id like to have a 4020 john deere, its just a good all around tractor, i got a few workers now but id like to have a nice row crop farmall C as it was the first tractor i drove back in the early '60's

Don't want anything else to work with

Would love to have an ETD; neighbor knows where there's one sitting in an old barn in the next county, but it's not for sale.

I think a Ford 545D fwa would fit the bill for work, and they're not that old yet, but the last series of a proven design, being an industrial I am not sure of the limitations of ag implements or equipment might be, but its a stout low to the ground tractor with quite a bit of punch at 60hp. Ideally I would have a 3 pt hoe for it, bucket forks for the work I have.

I don't have any buildings and most of the fields are overgrown, but if I was to change that, I would have to consider something that would suit ag needs, low center of gravity would be one priority but the above is just utilitarian that I would want to have regardless. We sold Ford when I was a kid, so maybe I would lean towards one of those for both work and say to collect or have as one I would take some pride and joy in restoring, and using lightly or similar.

For me, its like this and I'll compare it to baseball, football etc. I have a team I root for, and am loyal, however I like the game itself, regardless of teams, leagues, divisions etc. I like a well played game, I wont engage in this team vs that team, kind of like the ford vs chevy debate, its a waste of time. If finding that game means going to the local AA or whatever it is here, I'll do it, I do agree about the excessive salaries, it evolving it into big business, but even then there is nothing better than a well played game by players who you can see put their heart into it and those who try their best to be a good role model for the younger generation regardless of the particular team. I'm a loyal fan of my favorite team but am not bitter if they lose if they do their best. I cannot bash another team for any reason, rather appreciate their hard work if they win and enjoy the game. I just appreciate a good competition

With tractors, I recall other brands in our shop, ones I've run, we've had a couple JD's one IH and I find some of the older Case models really interesting, I really like comparing the smaller utility size models of all the manufacturers, as that is what suits my needs for work I always have, had I the resources it would be a blast to try them all ! The best of all is reading and participating here to learn more about ones you know nothing about. It would be cool to also have a small row of ones favorite brand in the most desired models too, for either work or hobby.

Rick, good question to post !

As a collector my next purchases will be an unstyled A and B.. Would also like to have a 330 but those are getting hard to find and are expensive...

As a work tractor: John Deere 4020 diesel Powershift with 148 loader... Perfect tractor for our application of 60acres of hobby farming....

Great question. Saw it earlier this morning and didn't answer it because I needed some time to think. Don't know if the "time to think" clarified anything but here goes.

Collector-JD 530. Never even drove one but I think they are a neat tractor.

Work- (Remember now--I'm a pure "throwback." I know that JD 4020's were great tractors but---)

Can't pick just one "worker"--so, I'm taking a Farmall Super M and a John Deere A.

Great post, great question!

I would love to have a case 830 case-o-matic eagle
hitch and a 1030. The 830 was the first tractor I
drove as a boy. I just love the sound of a 1030
working. The problem for me is I would have to both
collect them and use them, so it's hard to put them
in one catagory or the other.

For a collector, a John Deere 820 D (two cyl) and for a worker I guess it would be another 620 gas because they are a nice pleasant tractor to operate.

1. John Deere R. My grandfather had one and my dad gave me a ride on it when I was 7 but I don't remember the ride and I want to. Would also like a JD unstyled B, BR, and or GP, Cockshutt 30, first tractor I ever drove, Massey 44, favorite tractor of dad's growing up. Gonna have to win the lottery.
2. I have a JD 2550 with Sound guard cab, loader and 4wd and a JD 2130 that are all I need right now, but if I change from sheep to cash crop I might need something bigger like a JD 4250 4wd or a 6400 or 7200 4wd.

oldtanker,
*
1.IH 756 LP, Hard to find
2.IH 706 LP, Great using tractor
3.IH 1066, but finding a good one that hasn't had it's guts pulled out of it will be the problem
Just my thoughts!
Later,
John A.

to collect IH 1206, 560, OR AN GOLD DEMO. case i need a good 830 comfort king to go with my 930 1030, and 530 Im a little greedy i like all the big musle tractors, I grew up on an 830 case ,never will forget coming home from school,6th grade and that new 830 setting in the drive ,for many yrs that was the bigest tractor in those eastern ky hills, later dad bought 2 new 570s ,in 79 i bought the 1030 i have today ,althoe it was sold once and almost destroyed, longstory, a tractor to work 830, great fueleconmy, and you set on the back whereyou belong ,or a 570 perfect little tractor.hope it not to much talk, benttold i talk to much tom

Someday I'll have An Oliver 1655 (already own), Oliver 1850, Oliver
1855, White American 60 (for loader work) and a Massey Ferguson
165 for small jobs.

They are all going to be working tractors though. Maybe get a 2255
Oliver as more of a collector tractor someday.

I tend not to buy what I don't want anyway,so I don't want for much.

I guess a couple of big ones for sentimental reasons,a Case 1200. I fell in love with those when they came out. My uncle bought one. It went to Indiana when he had his auction in 71.
And an Oliver 2655 with no cab to park beside it in the shed. Just a beast of a tractor. Oliver's biggest. I always wanted Dad to buy a Ford 6000 when I was a kid. He told me I could buy one myself when I was older. Guess I haven't gotten old enough yet,I still haven't bought one.

There are days when I threaten to go buy two new Masseys to use. Something in the 110-120 horse range in the 5400 series and a FWA loader tractor in the 2600 series.

What ever happened with the combine revival? Did I miss something, or did that one just ride off into the sunset?

My work tractor is a ford 5000 (1967).
My play tractor is a Farmall H.
If I EVER get the old '47 H where I want her, I would next look for a '40's era John Deere B, though I sure picked a late starting date to get into tractor resorations, being as how I am now retired and on social security!
Oh well, it is a question of whether you have the money and not the time, or the time and not the money!!

Can't pick just one for work... too many different jobs... and my 5 have work pretty well covered. Really don't know that I'd pick different than what I have.
As a collector, I'd probably have to say my Grandpa's Commander 6000, if it could be tracked down.

As a collector that is easy I want a MM UDLTX I think that was what the fancy first cab tractor was.
As a worker I have yet to find that one that fits all my bills

As a collector, give me a John Deere C or a John Deere 4000 gas powershift.

As a worker give a late model John Deere 4020, 3020, or 2520 diesel powershift w/ a 158 loader.

collector... Oliver old style 88. Dad had one. Didn't tell me he was going to sell it till after he sold it. A close second is a Case 900 western.

Working tractor... Oliver 1655. Argument could be made it's the best 70 hp. tractor ever built.

As collector:
green Allis Chalmers,
MM UDLX
AC mounted cotton picker on WD/WD 45

As work, my dad has and I'd still pick:
AC Wd45 (s)
AC D15 series II
Jd 3010 g ( may have less power than Diesel, but carb kits
and spark plugs are easier and way cheeper than injectors
and injector pumps to replace/rebuild)

To collect of course I would want a UDLX. But more realistically a 1949 Cockshutt 40. (Anything 1950 or newer is too new for me).

For a work tractor I would LOVE to try out a new Fendt 714 Vario. A little bit bigger than we need, but sure would be nice.

If had had to choose a collector it would be a 1570 Case Spirit of '76. I love the patriotic paint scheme on these beast of a tractor.
The worker would be a bi-directional Versatile/New Holland tractor with 3 pt. and PTO on both ends. this would make a great snowblowing tractor and for other things as well too.
Kow Farmer

For a plaything just what I've got...a John Deere G with high compression pistons and "warmed up a little". (Just enough of a challenge to run this thing).
For a work tractor, with what little I know, (which obviously ain't much) I think I could handle a John Deere 4440 with Quad Range tranny or a International 5488.

I'd like to have a G1000 vista FWA with the 3 speed as a collector someday. As for a workhorse, in my opinion it would be hard to find a better 100 horse tractor than ford's 7610.

Collector: JD 60. The last of the slow talking
(975 rpm) all greens. Worker: International 826
Diesel gear. The most user-friendly, nimble, get-r-
done hoss in the stable.
