This is tractor related because I have parts coming today for the Jubilee I'm redoing but my wife said I can't play with my tractors until I fix the truck! It's a 1995 Ford F150 with 316,ooo miles on a 4.9 six. I started it to head to work last week and it died. I noticed I couldn't hear the fuel pump(and it is loud)so I figure thats it. It has dual tanks but the other one died years ago. So I order a pump drop the tank and put it in tried to start and wouldn't. Checked the fuse, blowed, go get another fuse and tried, blowed. I think well maybe I wired the pump wrong and unhooded the wires, put in another fuse and when I turn on the key it blows. I replaced the relay put in another fuse turn om key, blows. I'm assuming being that this happens without the pump even hooked up the problem is somewhere before it gets back there. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. I want to work on my tractor! Thanks.

Start chasing wires! Best thing is first find the harness leading back to the tank and look for obvious damage ie: pinch points where the harness in crushed and a wire grounded. I eliminated the rusty rear tank in my 92' F-150 when I put a new front tank in that truck. The wiring to the rear tank was in bad condition. To avoid problems, I terminated the wiring to the rear tank at the front tank. Look for the obvious first!

look right at the back of the cab on frame. i dont know why but for some reason thats a likely place to find a broken or bare wire. maybe from the frame flexing?

Substitute a test light for the fuse. No sense in wasting fuses. The light will burn until you eliminate the short. Test light is nice because when you wiggle the wires and it flickers, you know you're getting close to the problem.

Trace the wires from the fuel pump forward bet you will find a short where the wires have rubbed some place and shorted to ground it them self's Maybe a bear to find since the wires should be inside of a plastic type wrap

i had the same problem. the wire wore through in the bundle of wires that run from the relay on top of the valve cover.lift up the bundle and look at the bottom. you will find the bottom wire is the one that feeds the fuel pump.
