potato harvesting in pa saturday

The neighbors annual potato harvest ,saturday morning in pa, Everyone joins in to help. The ford tractor pulling the oliver potato digger is the Ford the little old lady in the farm house used to plow with,I remeber her plowing with it when it looked like brand new,They started farming the farm with a 9 n and traded that in for the one her sisters grandson is driving in the picture, That is my blue ford and wagon, the neighbors girlfriend is driving it,while we loaded the wagon up. The potatoes didnt grow very big this year.,but the neigbors grandma was glad we got them in before the heavy rain that is predicted, She is PA dutch, and cooks potatoes everyday. They keep them in a root cellar and are able to still have some till the new potatoes are dug buy hand,

Nice harvest. I may try and steal the idea you have for the front setup on your digger. Ours was no fun with out that. Now I see how to do it. Glad you got it all done before sandy comes along.

We dug our 2 weeks ago, Larry. Soil was very wet but it has only got even more wet since! We also had only a fair crop as blight got them in mid August,(a very big problem over here) Blues are not good croppers anyway but they sure do taste good!

Larry,
that sure looks like a nice bunch of tators to me. We planted our tators in Three 12'x4' boxes. I built wood crates from wood lath, like old apple crates. They were 14" highx15"wide x 23"long to fit into the bottom cabinet sections in our pantry in our enclosed front porch. We filled 5 of these crates. only 4 fit in the cabinet,so I built an extra, and it is covered with cardboard so that the sun light doesn't get to the spuds.

Larry,
Nice pictures of the spuds and Fords - BUT it looks to me that the Oliver Potatoe Harvester did most of the work! LOL

We did ours yesterday also with digger just about like that. Lots of fun. I got ta agree too , that's one cute gal on that Ford!!

FF Are you talking about the little front axel,dolley.. We always used to uses the cross drawbar on the lift arms then you could regulate the depth with the tractor lift. Looks like a lot of pto shaft to turn around at the ends.

Yes sir I am. I had it mounted on an 9N and it kept going to deep cause the front end would come up. I plan to alter it so I can pull it with my H or Super M and regulate the depth from the seat.

(quoted from post at 22:22:08 10/28/12) Dang she is a Hotty We need to start a new thread for people to post pics of girls on tractors

Already been done. I got a 2 week timeout for being a bad boy.......hehehe.

Larry watch out for milk crate police

Facing an estimated $80 million in annual losses from the thefts, dairies across the country are moving to stop the plastic pilfering. In California, companies are even hiring private detectives and staging sting operations.
