With todays new and improved oil what should I use in my john deere 4010 gas tractor? I also want to put new plugs in it. What is the best plugs for this tractor? I have not looked to see what is in it now. I use this tractor year around by the way. Thanks for your help.

Autolite 3116 or 216 depending on the thread size.
Solid core wires .
Make certain the coil polarity is correct.
Ensure the static timing is correct and that the mechanical
advance is functioning.
Check that choke blade on the carb really is wide open or
just looks and feels like it.
A Zenith carb works best.
Keep the coolant temps above 180F and 195F is better.

Plugs are sometimes difficult to determine which is best. We avoided all things Autolite after some bad experiences; we used Champions until we discovered that they weren't always the best in some applications. I don't use Champions at all anymore. Sometime you may have to expirement to find what is best for your engines - and that may vary from engine to engine.

There are some good plugs in the market and some bad ones (some are just "snake oil" plugs). NKG's work better in my Toyota's than any other plug.

Check the owner's manual for the best oil during various seasons. I myself favor a lighter oil than is generally recommended. Maybe 5W30 for winter use and 5W40 for summer use.

I"m 69-1/2, and have used Champion in everything
for 55 years. I"ve never had a plug problem.

I run JD 15w40 plus fifty in all my heavy motors. Gas or diesel. The diesel oil just has more detergent in it than a gas engine oil. So it actually better for your engine.

Yup. They are also rated for gas engines. Atleast I'm pretty sure Rotella is, and I'm pretty sure Mobil is too. I even run it in my truck to quiet down the lifters and help it build more PSI. '88 F150 w/ 6cyl. 300CI.

If the tractor is gonna see any hard labor, it'll burn off quite a bit of the lighter oils.

Any good 15w-40 for the engine.

For plugs, can't give a specific one but avoid Champion like the plague. Never had much luck with them, and most people have the same story with them.
