O/T Sears boots

Sears had a sale on all their shoes. I needed a new pair of work boots. I couldn't find anything with a flat sole. Everything had large cleats. I don't like work boots with traction soles, they always get hung up, getting on and off my tractors. Plus they trap mud, and makes the wife unhappy bring dirt into the house. I was able to find something with minium traction, but were made in china. How do you feel about traction sole boots? Stan

The only time you get any "traction" is on dry ground. As you stated, the darned things get full of dirt and they are the devil to get clean before going into the house or anywhere you don't want to track mud and dirt. And I, also, have had problems with them hanging on pedals, etc. In other words, I don't like them!

I cant stand the cleat sole boots. They are dangerous and you cant scrape the mud off. I dont understand why they make them like that. The wife found me Double H boots made in USA from Sheplers. Just in time, it rained and we have mud. I was afraid those cleated ones would catch on wires when on the hay pile and I would break my neck.

I know what you are talking about, shoes are a real pain in the @ss to find a good fit, quality and durability, within a reasonable price, I've found most cheap shoes are just not worth a darn, seemingly good quality is apparently overpriced, its just difficult sometimes, yet its really important, for posture, safety, all your weight bears on your feet, I used to stretch things too far, feet, back and so on suffer, nothing better than finding a good pair of shoes that fit your needs and a new pair of cotton socks.

The old "Klettering" tread like Vibram made and still makes, and similar, absolutely hold wet sticky clay with turf and so on, however I find a plastic hoove pick with a brush, makes short work of clearing out the mud, lean against a wall, raise one leg have at it, switch, thats it, I find an appropriate place where the accumulated mud is not an issue, or just come in through the cellar/garage/mancave, which takes on all kinds of dirt and debris from hauling in wood, vehicles etc. I hang one of those hoof picks by the cellar door. It does not take long and if I think about getting lazy, I just remember cleaning the same muck out of D8K track frames after my shift which was hard work, shoes "ain't nuthin" compared to that LOL !!!

Hey Stan.

You hit the nail on the head. I have been looking for replacements for these Wolverine boots which are very comfortable.

I like an 8in. boot with a smooth steel toe (for weld sparks & slag) and a fairly smooth sole with less aggressive tread.

I have been looking for these critters for some time with not much luck.

I used to wear red wing loggers when I worked in the woods but no I do most of my walking in the shop.

I remember looking for a pair of work boots 30 + years ago, like you I wanted flat soles. At that time the only place I could find them was Red Wing but as a broke college student I couldn't afford the tariff and Red Wings had a real high arch support that didn't match my flat feet so lived with the lugs even though they were hard on the greens. After joining the Air Force I found some issue boots had a less aggressive sole. Over the years I have found some Rocky's that had a vibram sole, but then work issued a steel toe mandate and this boot wasn't available in steel toe. Rendering plants are heck on boots so I started getting cheaper boots 'cause they'd only last about 6-8 months. Some of the Duty boots folks in Kentucky like Gall's or US Cavalry sell can be bought in a finer sole but usually only come in black. After starting for the county I switched to black steel toed boots or oxfords they usually didn't have big lugs on them. So Red wings or Duty boots from a Military or Cop Shop supplier.

Try Sears Diehard Item #84101 on sale till 10/27. Have wore these for over thirty years now with no problems. I just bought a pair about a month ago cost me $90.00 now they are $50.00 something. My luck.

I've never had trouble finding crepe, smooth soled work boots, the ones that look like the Red Wings. I've also never found them to be of much use outside the confines of the shop or home. Must be you boys are a lot more sure footed than I am. Lug soles might track int he mud, but they keep my old body from hitting the dirt!
