Testing the plug wires the hard way.

Don't know about that but I can remember my dad had a 1972 GMC pickup with a 250-6 in it and had trouble with it in wet weather. He took it to 3 or 4 places and none could find the problem. He had it at one place and it would run but not well. So I was with him to pick it up and I had the hood up and garbed the distributor cap and it let me know it had crack the hard way. The place then wanted to charge him for trouble shooting and fixing the problem and he said no way and we drove off to the part store

anybody remember the old flat tab on a single cylinder engine that was used to ground out the spark plug to kill the engine? story goes that a young boy and his girl friend was out in a small jon boat with an old outboard on it. they started getting frisky with each other so they headed to the back of a slew for a little time alone. reaching the back of the slew action was pretty heavy so while continuing with the heavy petting with one hand he reached back to the grounding tab, missed it and touched the spark plug instead. reportly; she jumped out of the boat.

Got a buddy that was getting frisky with a girl in the back of his pickup, setting in the middle of a cow pasture. Said he was doing his thing when a cow stuck her head over the side of the bed and licked his backside. Said he just about slammed the poor girl under him through the bed....

I used to work with a man that tried to shut down a mini-bike engine with the kill tab and touched the spark plug. He never would use the tab after that, he would close the choke on the carb. to kill the engine.

My first husband and I had a 12 ft aluminum boat. We had just bought a used engine for it and headed out. Didn't get very far and the engine quit.

He couldn't get it re-started and wanted to know if it was getting spark. He stuck a screw driver in the spark plug wire and told me to hold the metal part while he pulled the start cord.

Engine was putting out lots of spark. I got zinged big time. Engine may have been cold, but I was red hot. We weren't that far from shore and I SERIOUSLY considered turning the boat over and swimming to shore. Just one more reason why I left him.

Y'all may get a laugh out of this, but how many of you would do that to your wife? I still get mad when I think about it.

I might have tried it but my wife would never have done it. She might have pulled the rope, but never would have checked for spark.

I had bad wires on a couple of vehicles before and when it was damp and rainy and they would not start,I would spray a LIGHT whiff of ether on the wires. Then try to to start it. The shorted ,damp wire(s)would spark and light the ether. There would be a small fire which quickly burnt itself out, drying the damp wires in the process. Then I could drive away. Worked every time, til I"d finally replace the wires.
