No one in South Dakota?

I remember him, I was in elementary school but I remember him. Nixon beat him in a landslide then the whole watergate thing , I hated it because that was all that was on tv for months.

I read a few of Steven Ambrose's works including The Wild Blue where he kinda follows MaGovern through the war.
A great and rare man he was. Even at a young age.
Unfortunately he was of the breed who tossed away so much of our heritage and gave us the America that JD Seller speaks of in his posts.
I honor his many years of service. I send solace to his family.
But he's not such a one that I'll visit his grave.
At least not anytime soon.

I was listening to NPR on the radio Sunday on my way home from Kentucky. That was ALL they talked about.

Yeah, I remember him from the seventy's, But it was around the same time as that there s exual revision and I remember THAT a dang site more!!

My Mother went to HS with him. He and Komrade Kronkite did more for NVN than any 5 regiments of regulars could accomplish. I live in his hometown. There is a multi million dollar library in his name, built with federal funds that has less then 25 visitors a day.
I can't figure how a guy who went to war and did more than most, could get that far off track. He didn't even carry SD in the 72 election.
I guess what says it all is that his father was a pro baseball player, He gave that up because there was too much drinking, too many prostitutes, and too much gambling going on. Now I ask you, would a rationsl msn lesve that? I rest my case.

I remember him well. I was in high school when he was on the ticket. Didn't think much of him then. I may go pour a bottle of booze on his grave........after I filter it though my own body.

Rick

Yep, so much for 'favorite sons'. When Al Gore said Bush was cheating in Florida, he didn't notice he didn't even carry Tennesssee, and Edwards didn't carry N,Carolina either. Heck, John Kerry won Mass by what ammounted to 2 Boston neighorhoods, 14,000 in a state of 4 million? those are things the talking heads don't seem to remember.
I never critize combat veterans, which are different than boot polishers, when they sound off the wall, I leave it be. I knew a man who was in the British army in North Africa, had something to do with cataloging dead Italian soldier's personal effects etc... his family was very church oriented, he became a life long athiest, just the way he -saw what he saw- I guess.
McGovern probly would have been seen as a local hero if he didn't run for that particular job at that point in history....

Was a decorated WWll veteran. Was the wrong man at the wrong time when he ran for president. Did a lot of good after that with his world hunger thing. As far as carrying SD in an election for president, you could run the dog catcher and win if your nnalert.

He was indeed quite the abundant left wing pol. However, I for one have to give him credit for being correct in his opposition to the senseless war in Nam. He also correctly opposed the invasion of Iraq and Afganistan.

I would not hang that shame on him.
He was a patriot and did what he could to Help - according to his lights.
Jane was the traitor and should have been shot.

I slightly remember the 72 election 8 years old at the time. Seen him in Mitchell a lot. He would go to the movies where I manage part time. Caught him peeing outside the exit doors one afternoon. Apparently couldn't wait till he got inside. LOL

he was one of those guys who either you hated,or liked, never seemed to be a middle of the roader,so youve got to give him credit for that at least. personally I didnt care for him, or his politics, but there were a lot around back in the day that did.
