Hey,

anyone used this stuff? Wondering how tuff it makes a corner and how tuff the diagonal brace is (if it's tuff enough to support a light gate or just a gate with a wheel)... The locust posts I was gonna get turned out to be junk. Besides, I hadn't been at the place working on fence and digging a posthole an hour when I had a visitor that told me a permanent fence is not allowed and wood posts are considered permanent. This is property we own too, just not worth arguing with the nature folks and a tpost won't rot or break.....

Thanks...

I object to lots of stuff people do, both rich and poor. I always kind of figured it was none of my business unless it had a direct effect on me.

Dave, I used the WedgeLoc hardware when I fenced my yard for the dog about 15 years ago. For corners I used 7 ft posts driven 3 ft into our very rocky glacial till. Brace posts were about 6 ft away and only driven 2 ft, as were line posts. Corners got braced with just a diagonal hard brace and no wire, but where I hung a gate I used a hard brace and wire combined. If the gate was in the middle of a straight, I put a post about 6 ft inside the yard to brace that post and keep it from bending. I hung up to a 12 ft lightweight steel gate (no wheel) on that setup with no problem. When I took up a section of that fence a couple years ago, it was darn near impossible to pull those corner posts. Some of them had hit rocks when I drove them and they bent about 15-20 degrees as they were driven.

On the other hand, I tried using the WedgeLoc hardware to put a fence at our California vacation home, and it didn't work well at all. Posts pulled out of the sandy soil (desert) there too easy, and when I tensioned the fence, which was 47 inch field fence, it pulled some of the corners up. Probably pulled too much tension, but I used the same tension there as I did here in Washington.

wood posts are considered permanent and steel posts are not? thats strange. but who can figure the reasoning behind this stuff sometimes. Can you use barbed wire or does it have to be electric fence? to answer your question ,ive not used those but some neighbors have ,most set a three or four inch pipe for gate posts here, and cut a hole in it for the top of t post brace.

Dave we put in a samll pen with Tpost and wedge locks 2 years ago. Only problem I had was with the gate. I put it in for pigs and used electric fence to keep pigs in. The pigs rooted along the bottom of the gate being one place they could do that without getting bite by the fence. The post are now loose because I was a tight azz and didn't buy the longer post. Those 2 post will be replaced in the spring.

You can't put a fence on your own farm? Tell me Dave, why do you live there?

Better check and see if t posts are allowed before sinking money into anything.

fence is fine, just the type... Long story but once the nature friends get a hold in an area, things get harder. Inside the town limits, you are pretty free but outside is looked at.... I mentioned it on here a year or so ago about offering to clean up a neighbor's place (junk) for a couple pieces he had and I wanted. All the patriotic "it's my right to be a slob" folks jumped in and told me what an idiot I was and it was none of my business.. Well, guess what...County (??) had someone clean it and sent him a bill, he told them to take the property (maybe 1/8th acre)... County took it and the buddy system kicked in and it got handed over to the local nature preserve (lack of better words) folks... So someone is always there snooping around what the neighboring places are doing. The Tposts were a hard sell but we already had a foot in the door. None of the areas outside town were fenced when we moved in so there was nothing to compare to and I had rented and had fences up before anyone knew what was going on. As long as they look neat, no problems... Why I live here?

my car sets on the street in front of or around the corner from the house with the doors unlocked and key in the ignition.

In 22 years I've had 3 things stolen (all three by Americans)

The nature thing and a couple other little things are inconvenient, but you don't drive down a country road and see housetrailers everywhere someone could get the minimum acreage and park one.

and several other reasons.....

Aha! That explains it. You object to the working poor having a home of their own. Huh, kind of an elitist attitude, ain't it?

No, I just object to the junk cars, appliance's, trash, etc that accompanies too many of them... Nothing wrong with a housetrailer in the right hands... Was back home driving around a couple years ago. The "progress" broke my heart...............
